Cassie staying the night quickly became a regular occurrence, her being there most nights and only leaving the loop to work on her research. Soon enough all her bags were taken from the hotel room save a change of clothes when she was out working and she had unofficially moved into the house.
She settled into a routine, hanging out with the children in the mornings, helping Alma cook the meals, and spending her afternoons talking with the woman until dinner.
Cooking with her felt painfully domestic and Cassie wondered what it would be like to make this her life forever. It was conflicting, she loved New York and her job but this place, Alma, was quickly taking a hold on her heart and she didn't know how she could bring herself to leave. Still, she had a month left on Cairnholm and left the thought for later.
"Are you alright Cassie?" Alma asked, placing a hand on her shoulder when she didn't reply to her last words.
"Huh? Yeah sorry, I was just thinking. What did you say?" Cassie replied, snapping out of it and sending an apologetic smile at her.
"I asked if you could get the spices down from the cabinet, I can't reach and I don't feel like getting a chair." She said, still a bit concerned about what had her so deep in thought but choosing to let it go for now.
As Cassie reached up her shirt rolled up exposing her midriff. Alma's fingers twitched as she resisted touching the abs that she couldn't tear her eyes from.
"It's rude to stare you know." Cassie whispered in her ear as she held out the container.
Alma jumped a bit, not noticing before that Cassie was done and had seen her staring. "My apologies, I ju-" She started as she took the item, their fingers brushing.
"It's ok. I don't mind." Cassie replied with a grin, flicking her eyes between Alma's lips and her interested gaze.
The moment was broken when Bronwyn ran in asking what was for lunch and the women jumped apart to pretend they were busy cooking, both wishing they could've taken it further.
Afterwards they went up to Alma's study for their chat and that was where she decided to find out what was bothering her earlier.
"So, what where you thinking about before, in the kitchen?" Alma asked with a concerned look.
"That. Well uh.." She trailed off, unsure how to word it.
"You don't have to tell me, I don't mean to make you uncomfortable." She backtracked.
"No no you aren't, you know I tell you everything." She reassured her with a smile. "I've just been thinking about home."
Alma's smile faltered before she stuck it back on, she knew this moment would come didn't she, it was stupid to think Cassie would stay. "Though we would love to have you here, you are free to go back if you wish." She offered.
"That's the thing, I don't know if I want to. I do love my house and my friends but I can't see myself leaving Cairnholm. I found a home here in the children and, in you." Cassie replied, looking up at her.
"Then stay however long you want, I'd like nothing more than for you to be here." Alma said as she realized Cassie felt like home to her too.
They were only a few inches apart, leaning close to each other over the arms of their chairs, when Alma decided to take a chance and lean in, pressing her lips to Cassie's.
She sucked in a breath when she felt the lips on her's and kissed back harder, pulling Alma in closer with a hand on her waist.
Alma gripped her shoulder as Cassie nipped at her lower lip, drawing a quiet moan from the woman.
