"Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction."
You cast a glance over at Baji, who is cleaning the cat's litter. You form a line with your lips, trying to figure out what the quote means.
"Love, come here," As you call out for him, you pat the space in your bed. He immediately moved closer to you from where he was. "What exactly is it?"
You go back and read the quotation again. As he thinks about it, he tilts his head. You're reading The Little Prince, and every time you come across something confusing and want to hear more opinions than your own, you call out for Baji. "Perhaps it is about people who are only concerned with themselves and the one they love, ignoring others. It's a little selfish; a couple should practice looking out into the world as well."
You nod your head, trying to make sense of it all again. He has a valid point, but it is not the same as yours. Baji notices your apprehension and puts the cat down to give you his full attention. "How about you?" What are your thoughts?"
"It's almost the same as you; I'm thinking that looking at someone solely for the sake of looking at them is selfish because you're only satisfying yourself. However, I believe that if people are looking in the same direction, they are doing something together rather than just satisfying themselves. Because the book is about selfishness, I assume the quote is about togetherness."
Even after you explain, Baji stares at you. He can't help but be proud of how he ended up with someone so intelligent. You return his stare with interest rather than awkwardness. There is a pleasant silence in the air.
"Are we going to stare each other down to prove a point?" You, teased.
"Maybe. I can't help myself, you're so lovely," he says, instantly making you feel flustered.
You didn't break the gaze; keep it longer. Your face cracks into a small smile. Baji recognizes your expression and took the opportunity to tell you, "You know, I don't believe in love at first sight and I'm glad because it took me a while to see that you are the one for me,"
You avert your gaze. Keisuke has a way with words, damn it.
