You weren’t present in the first timeline, and Baji had died. Baji was killed by Mikey the second time he returned, and there was no trace of you, either. Takemichi was perplexed by your appearance during the Bloody Halloween incident, and he was even more perplexed when he returned the third time and found no trace of you. He was able to save everyone, including Hina, Emma, Izana, Baji, and Mikey. And finally, he had the opportunity to speak with Baji in order to obtain answers, only to receive...
“Do you remember when she left Japan after high school?” Baji, clarifies.
As expected, you gave in to your and your mother’s desires. Continue the legacy that your parents established— family of doctors. You, who have no regard for your feelings and emotions, have become a psychologist. You went abroad to fulfill your mother’s wish.
It was the 3rd year of high school since the last time you saw Baji. Even though he didn’t like the idea of you being so far away from him, he accepted it. He was happy, too, because he knew you were doing something you wanted to do; something you didn’t completely despise. You and he agreed to keep in touch despite your distance. Another promise was made to fulfill each other’s dreams: him, opening a pet shop with Chifuyu and even Kazutora.
However, things do not go as planned. You lost contact; you have a busy schedule; and there is still more to do on your list. It is uncommon for “firsts” to last forever. Sometimes firsts are just lessons.. opportunities to shape yourself for the future. As distance grew between the two of you, you decided to let go.
“Let’s break up.” Three words that you appear to be familiar with. It's a little nostalgic. Ah.. It’s the same thing you’ve heard from him before. But it was you this time. You were the one who snapped the invisible, frail string that linked you to him.
Perhaps it’s better this way.
Baji may have been your first love, experience and lesson, but he will always hold a special place in your heart. Even after years of breaking apart, you still stop and think about him.
“Are you coming home?” Emma, on the other side of the phone, asked. It’s been years, 8 to be exact.
“I’ve told you, I’ll be there.” You reply.
“That’s not an exact answer! You better be at my wedding or else..?” Emma threatens.
You laughed awkwardly, “Sure sure. Let’s just catch up when I get there.”
You put your phone down and stare absentmindedly at your window. Wow, was all you can say. You only realise how long it has been. Emma is getting married already and you even missed Pah’s wedding. Yuzuha became Hakkai’s manager, hell even surprised by Hakkai's occupation. You just happened to come across a photo of him in a magazine. With Mitsuya’s work; he is a fashion designer. And there’s a lot more people you got close with. They’ve come so far. Despite having connections with those people related to him, Baji, you can’t put yourself together to talk to him again.
You’re at a loss for what to say. How are you doing? Baji, you’re still a moron. Hey, I’ve been thinking about you. Do you want to kiss? You also can’t give Emma an exact answer because you’re still unsure if you’re ready to return home.
After a few minutes of thinking, you drew your phone back and dialed your sister’s number. “Hey, do you want to go back to Japan?”
You fired up your laptop and booked a flight back to your hometown. You can’t afford to miss another opportunity to see them, to see him.
