"Hey, Flaky are you okay? You look down."

I look at Giggles, startled out of my thoughts.

"Oh! Uh...I'm fine, it's nothing...."

"Doesn't seem like nothing to me."

I hesitate and try to figure out what to say to her.

Prospective Change

------------------

Giggles already had an idea about what was bothering her friend. She smiled softly and held Flaky's hand.

"Flaky, I know you've had a hard time and have been trying so hard to find a job that would last more than a month, but I need you to stay calm, job's aren't going anyway and you know you can always count on us being there for you."

"But the last time you help me, I-"

"Enough of that, that is in the past. You tried your best."

"Not hard enough...."

"I'd say you tried too hard."

"I always get fired...."

"That's because it wasn't the right job for you. The right one will come soon enough and then you can stop worrying about it."

The conversation was going no where so Giggles changed subjects.

"This stew you made is amazing!"

"Oh, thank you! I didn't have all of the ingredients though...."

😶 I didn't know I could put an emoji on here!

Giggles left the next morning after spending the night reading adventure stories with Flaky. They looked terrible.

"Giggles, you shouldn't have read that book."

"I know, I couldn't stop until I got to the ending."

"Then we ended up reading half the series."

"Yeah- Yawn- I'm going to go now, I need to go...start my day!", Giggles almost said she needed to get ready for work when she remembered Flaky was sad he could fine one.

"Oh! Okay, here, some coffee."

Flaky handed Giggles a white travel mug with a pink bow on it. Giggles down the burning coffee until she started coughing.

"Giggles slow down! It's hot coffee!"

"Sorry- cough cough- It's just you were the best barista back when you worked at that café."

"I swept the floor, Giggles, I only made coffee one time because I will filling in for another co-worker until he made it to work."

"That, was a packed day, because of you."

"It emptied just as quickly when I got overwhelmed and my quills hardened."

"Yeah....uh, well bye Flaky! It was nice to see you!"

Before Giggles left, Flaky called out to her.

"I forgot to tell you! I'm a boy today!"

"I'll tell Cuddles later!"

"Thank you!"

"No problem!"

---------------

He closes the door and and walks over to the kitchen. He starts to clean up and sighs.

"What am I going to do?"

He turned his radio on to listen to his favorite pod-cast. A soft one about gardening and books. The pod-caster has a deep, soothing voice and some times shares a war story; he also talks about the time and weather.

He began to smile and hum to the song the pod-caster plays when he is taking a break from talking.

Soon enough, he finishes cleaning the kitchen and walks into the living room. He sits down and turns on the TV. He mutes it, so he can continue to listen to the pod-cast.

---------------

Flaky was immerse in his book when the door bell rang. It scared Flaky and he tensed up as his quills harden and flare up. He stands and slowly move to the door as he calms down again, realizing it was time for the mail man to show up.

He opens the door and a large, blue moose in mail man uniform tilts his hat as a hello. Flaky shakingly smiles and waves back.

"Oh, H-Hi Lumpy!"

Lumpy, the mail moose, hands Flaky todays news paper and a box. He leaves, forgetting to get Flaky's signature for the box.

"U-Uh Lumpy!"

He was already gone. Flaky sighed once more that morning and closed the door. He puts the news paper down and takes the note attached to the box. It was from his mother and inside the box is an early birthday present. His mother and father won't be able to come because they have a tight schedule that involves an over seas meeting.

"I told them to retire....they work too hard."

He opens the box to see it was a light green tie. He loves it.

-----------

He looks at the news papers and notice an ad for job for the news paper. It sounded good, safe, and stable. He immediately calls the number to set up an interview and time.
