Flaky didn't have a good morning. He had to deal with mean and busy animals that had somewhere to be. He got bumped into several times.
He starts work soon, but for now his boss wanted him to get familiar with the other employees and to enter his name in the system.
When it came to his gender identifiers, the company recently updated to include the option to not say what your gender is. He felt quite relieved.
-----
Once He had everything set up and ready, he spent the next week learning what he needs to do and the employees he would see go home last.
His job is to clean up the office and do other things for extra pay. While it could be dangerous, the newspaper company had good security and there wasn't any real reason to break in most of the time. So he decided to take the chance.
"Why would anyone break into a newspaper company?"
Flaky swept the floor as he thought about what to eat. Sure it was lonely and intimidating to be in an almost empty building besides the guards. He rarely ever had the chance to say hello to them.
-----
Flaky is now a they.
-------Just like that, months past with nothing happening to them. While it's true they were more than paranoid and had been very tense, the guards reassured them, that a break in is a super rare thing. That they would be there with them and all they had to do was scream.
It did little help, but it did help.
They swing their arm while they sit in the bathtub with candles and the radio on. They rest their head on their other arm and sighed.
"I haven't died in a while....."
The last time they died, they tripped and fell into an open man hole. That was then casually sealed back up and no one noticed they died. Not even when they gave off a smell as a corpse.
They heard the music switch and sat up to lean back. They weren't worried about their quills for once. They stare up at the ceiling.
"What if I died one day and never come back? Would I be missed? I mean, I guess my friends would miss me....then again.... what if I died unnoticed again? No one saw me and I had no one asking where I went. No one noticed my scream...."
After brief contemplation, they sit up again.
"This is a really long break, is he okay?"
They decided to call. This is the fourth time the pod caster took a longer break than usual. They were nervous.
They slid a little bit out of the bathtub to reach their phone and called the number by heart. They had dreamed of calling him, but never dared to. Perhaps they really will this time?
They dialed the number and waited. Regret and shame seep into them as they get scared. They almost hung up before the phone was answered.
"...."
"H-hello, I'm a huge fan o-of your podcast! A-and well.... I just wanted to say....are you...o-okay? I mean, uh, sorry! Forget I said anything! Shouldn't bother you.... um, I really liked the book you recommended last time! It was so interesting, and.....uh....hello? Are you there Army Green? Oh dear, I Shouldn't have called you! I-I'm s-s-sorry...", they said.
They begin to tear up, when Army Green answered at last.
"It's okay! It's okay! Thank you for calling, it's nice to hear from a fan, thank you so much! I loved that book too, next time, I suggest Marked Red if you like mysteries.
It's about a man living in the snowy mountains in a cabin. He sees some strange figures moving in the shadows. His past has come to claim his life and he needs to figure out why, but if you would like something nicer than what about Golden Globe?
This is nice story about a group of friend traveling around the world and all the interesting things they see and experiencing the cultures of those countries!", he said.
"O-oh... I've already read that one.", they said.
"Really? It's good isn't it?", he said.
"Yeah....", they said.
They smile.
"Well... I have to go now.", they said.
"Good bye, thank you again for calling! Having a nice evening.", he said.
"Thank you, it was nice to talk to you too. Good bye.", they said.

Blood and Gore Warning
———Flaky hung up and then realized they never told him their name. They groan and then face palm.
They stood up and quickly tried to get out of the bathtub, but they were too quick. They slipped and fell on their face.
They bled while knocked out, but eventually came to as they realized their house was burning down. The curtains caught on fire while they were out cold. So they burned to death and screamed.
There were firemen, but they realized they were naked and would rather die painfully than embarrass themself.
------‐
Bye for now!
