Okay so this time you cannot skip out on this chapter, otherwise shiz won't make sense. I'm trying out a different way to write Xira's POV that I hope you guys like better (Thank you people who recommended I do it this way!). I'm super duper sorry I didn't have this out last week, I had a slight case of writer's block...I'll let you guys know right now that I might have irregular posting for a little cause on Tuesday I start my first day of highschool! (Can't believe I'm already a freshman!) Anyway hope you enjoy this chapie and once again sorry for the delay!
Xira thought she was getting better; her grades at least weren't just passing anymore. She was grateful Harry helped her out. It wasn't as lonely at Hogwarts as she thought it would be, especially because she had a friend.
Maybe her mother was right. Halloween was just around the corner; it seemed Xira's first year was already a quarter of the way finished. It hadn't been as bad as she expected; in fact, she was almost sad. Sure, she wouldn't miss the classes, but she'd miss Harry.
It sounds cheesy, but she already likes him a lot. Xira's never been one to connect to people quickly; yeah, she's a bit bubbly seeming. But truthfully, Xira holds very few close to her heart. Her sweet outside layer isn't fake, but it isn't entirely her either.
That's why she wonders about her strange attachment to Harry; it is pretty odd. She has this urge to get closer to him, the befriend him, to aid him. She resists most of the time; the want feels alien and slightly disturbing to her.
Xira is not one to give in, even if it would be better sometimes if she did. Xira's stomach rumbled angrily, reminding her that she hadn't eaten yet. She glanced at the clock in the common room and winced at the time. There were only five minutes till the first class of the day started.
Xira wasn't going to push it, even if that meant she'd starve. Harry wasn't around. He must have left her to get sucked into her book. The snake! She was going to give him a piece of her mind when she found him. Xira marched off to Charms, annoyed.

Xira made sure Harry had gotten an earful, but after she'd eaten, she was in a much better mood. She was finally able to rant about the upcoming holiday. Halloween had to be her favorite, well, next to Christmas. Her mother had shown her the muggle tradition of trick-or-treating.She always loved to dress up in costumes and visit muggle houses in her neighborhood, asking for sweet treats.
"I liked my fairy costume the best! Mother gave me blue wings and a blue dress to exactly match my eyes. She said I looked like a real fairy that year!" Xira babbled to Harry, sounding more childlike than usual. She couldn't help it; she really did love Halloween.
Harry looked lost and a tiny bit uncomfortable, but he still listened, and Xira was grateful for that. Even her mother would sometimes ignore her when she rambled like this.
"Sorry, am I jabbering?" Harry blinked once before bursting into laughter. She couldn't help the grin that formed on her face.
"So, I guess you like Halloween?" He asked sarcastically while catching his breath; Xira noticed a couple Slytherins were eyeing them nastily. Nobody really neared where they sat in the common room. Xira guessed it was because of Harry, and maybe also her bubbly attitude.
"Yep! One of my favorite holidays!" Harry shook his head, his eyes focused on her. Xira hoped she'd get used to the looks and stares like Harry did.
"Halloween isn't my favorite...." Harry admitted, and Xira shifted her full attention back to him, outraged at the words that left his mouth. Harry noticed her look, and he rolled his eyes.
"I've never gone trick-or-treating before and Halloween. Also, that's the day my parents died." Xira immediately felt terrible, of course.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Harry..." He smiled at her, though she thought she saw a touch of sadness in his expression.
"No, it's alright; I never really knew them." The happy mood Xira had brought had been dulled with the dark topic Xira had accidentally prompted. She couldn't imagine losing her mother; it was already bad enough, never knowing her father.
"It's not alright though, you know I never knew my father, but that makes me want him more." She gazed intensely at Harry, but he didn't meet her eyes. He shrugged, clearly wanting to avoid the topic. Xira said no more that night, knowing she shouldn't press further.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xira was practically bouncing off the walls. Even though she wouldn't get to trick-or-treat this year, she still was looking forward to the yummy food and spooky vibes. Anyway, her mother promised she would give her plenty of candy when she went on Christmas break. The heavenly smell of pumpkin could be smelt all around. It even covered up the distinctly musty smell of the dungeons. Xira preceded to basically be a bundle of energy all day, a buzz of elation that seemed to aggravate the people around her.
What a grumpy bunch of kids! Clearly, they didn't know the meaning of the word fun, how boring. Even Harry lacked her exhilaration, but he did have a good reason for that. Xira couldn't help but question if his slightly distracted demeanor today was because of his parents.
Xira sort of felt like it wasn't just that; he looked like he was thinking even more than usual today. The hard-working cogs in his head spinning faster than average. She could ask, but she'd bet six galleons he wouldn't tell her.
That was quite irritating; he was an eleven-year-old boy just like her. What huge secrets could he possibly have? Xira just huffed at her thinking, causing Harry to finally look at her. They were sitting in the room of requirement, and Harry was supposed to be helping her.
Instead, he had gotten distracted by his thoughts and left her to delve into her own.
"Sorry, I was just thinking...." He apologized, but that only made Xira more peeved off. She didn't think he really meant his apology.
"Is that all you do?" She questioned with a little bit of noticeable venom. His eyebrow rose in confusion as if this came from nowhere. She rolled her eyes and shut the book that was sitting in her lap. Xira got up and put it on the shelf Harry got it from.
She felt his eyes on her, and she turned back around to face him.
"I know you aren't going to tell me what's on your mind, but we aren't going to get anything done like this. We might as well leave." She so hoped he would tell her then, but instead, he shot her an apologetic look and stood up.
"Sorry, Xira, this is personal." Xira sighed deeply; she wasn't expecting anything different. They walked out the door together, a heavy silence between them.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, she thought, maybe her day would end on a positive note. When Xira walked into the great hall for dinner, she was blown away by the decorations. Her mother's decorations were dull in comparison for sure. She eyed everything from the live bats that fluttered around to the extra dark clouds. It was absolutely fantastic, and the food looked amazing too. Her stomach grumbled just in time, making the feast look that much better. She sat down next to Harry; he didn't say a word. She grabbed a bunch of different foods; she'd make room.
"Don't get too comfortable...." Whispered Harry, and she gave him a befuddled look, her mouth full of turkey. He nodded toward the door, and as if on cue, it burst open. Professor Quirrell came sprinting in; he looked ready to pass out.
"Troll – in the dungeons – thought you ought to know." He said before collapsing to the ground, sending everybody into a frenzy. There went her chance at ending this day on a high note.
