Chapter 1 - "So, it'd be pretty pointless to do so!"

Scarlett was currently in her room at her mother's home that was situated on the South Side of Outer Banks - that was situated at The Cut. She was sat on the bed, which creaked with every movement she made on it. Scarlett visited her mother and twin sister, Anne-Marie, for a week and a half every other month - Scarlett herself lived with her dad on the North Side of Outer Banks - in Figure 8.

Her mother and twin sister liked to pretend that they weren't associated with any of the Kooks, even though many of the Kooks knew of Scarlett's relation to them. But they liked to pretend and hide the fact that she was a Kook whenever she was down the South Side of Outer Banks, and if anyone inquired, she wasn't from the island at all.

But no one ever inquired about her since they very rarely saw her - she spent most of her time inside when she visited. Scarlett despised this, of course, she was made to look at - she was a Montague, after all. Montague's were all beyond beautiful, they were the richest family in Outer Banks and got along with many people - Scarlett did have a collection of friends back home. Though, her best friends were; her childhood best friend, Rafe Cameron; her cousin, Nathan Montague; her best friend since kindergarten, Topper Thornton; and her ex's little sister, Kylie Sampson.

However, Scarlett couldn't deny her curiosity about this side of the island - she was only ever allowed to look around when travelling there. And even then, whenever she was picked up, Nathan or Lucas drove very fast and she was barely able to catch a glimpse at anything. She had once asked if she could take her own car down, but her dad told her no. She knew her dad would not change his mind when it came to the the Cut.

Scarlett stood from her bed and stretched her arms out, before she exited her room, she closed the door behind her. When she reached the kitchen she found her mother and sister doing breakfast for them all. "Morning." Scarlett greeted them with a bright smile. Her mother simply smiled at her as she cooked, and her sister hummed in acknowledgment.

After around 30 minutes, they were all sat down and were eating breakfast, when her mother spoke up. "What were your plans for today, Scarlett?" Her mother asked her, and her sister looked at her. Sometimes Scarlett got the feeling that her twin sister didn't like her very much - Scarlett assumed it was jealously at first. Because she stayed with dad, and was treated as royalty by anyone who met her. But her sister was happy here, so she wasn't quite sure.

"Well, I was planning on reading this book I brought." Scarlett told her slowly. Her mother had work, so she wasn't going to be around, and she wasn't too sure what her sister was doing - they didn't really talk about their plans when together. "It's quite intriguing, actually. Why?" She queried with an arched brow.

"Well, me and you sister were thinking that maybe it's time you actually enjoy your time here." Her mother told her, and she looked up. "We both know that it mustn't be very enjoyable if you stay inside all the time when here, when opposed to going out with your friends often when with your dad."

Scarlett swallowed her food slowly and looked at them both. "I don't go out as much as I wish when home." Scarlett reminded them. "Because you both think it'd be horrible for anyone to make the connection between your estranged daughter and Scarlett Montague." She paused. "Besides, what would I do? I don't know my way around, and would very likely get lost on this side of the island."

"You can come and meet my friends." Anne-Marie told her, and Scarlett couldn't help but raise her brows at her twin sister.

"Your friends?" Scarlett repeated in disbelief. "Aren't you worried they'll make the connection?"

"They won't." Anne-Marie assured her, and Scarlett couldn't tell if her sister was being genuine, or if she was being forced to do this. "Because you're not Scarlett Montague when you're here, you're Roslyn Rosewood." Scarlett didn't like the idea of claiming to be someone else, but shrugged it off lightly.
