TW: mentions of death, mentions of trauma.
~Ten years later~
"Dinner!" I yelled, my eyes glued to the pan of bolognese as I stirred it one last time to make sure that it was cooked through. My eyebrows furrowed and I looked up into the rest of the cabin as I got no response.
"Did anyone hear me, guys? Dinner is ready!" I shouted again. I sighed and shook my head, my hand resting on my growing pregnancy bump as I continued to stir the sauce.
"I heard you, mommy." I looked at the doorway and gave Mary a small smile as she wandered into the kitchen.
"Thank you, baby. Do you know where daddy and Richard are?" I asked.
"Yeah, they're outside. Daddy is teaching Richard how to chop wood." She nodded. I looked at her.
"Please tell me that you're lying, Mary May Parker." I scoffed. The eight-year-old shook her head and looked up at me, making me sigh and nod.
"Okay, baby. Watch the sauce for me." I nodded, making her return it as I headed out of the kitchen. I headed out of the front door, my eyes squinting slightly and my hand raising to shield my gaze from the setting sun that was peeking through the trees surrounding our cabin.
"There you go, buddy, awesome job!" I heard Peter's voice. I looked down to the lake, a sigh leaving my lips as sure enough, Peter had his arms around Richard and his hands over our son's as he showed the boy how to chop wood. The five-year-old boy how to chop wood.
"Peter Benjamin Parker." I called out, making them both look at me as I started to walk down to them.
"Uh oh. You know that full names with mommy equals trouble." Peter teased, making Richard giggle as Peter kissed our son's curls that were identical to his.
"I seem to remember us having a conversation about you teaching our small son how to chop wood using a dangerous tool." I nodded, one hand on my hip as the other rested on my bump.
"I remember that too, baby." He teased, making me playfully roll my eyes and chuckle at him.
"I seem to remember us deciding that we'd wait. Like we're waiting with Mary." I smiled sarcastically.
"We did decide that, you're right, but then he came out here and asked me to show him. I couldn't not show him." He chuckled. I sighed and playfully rolled my eyes again before looking at Richard.
"Head inside and wash your hands, baby, dinner is ready." I smiled. The boy nodded and ran off, making me look back up at Peter as he walked towards me.
"He could have hurt himself, Pete, you were using an axe." I sighed as he curled his arm around my waist and we started to walk back up to the cabin.
"He wasn't going to hurt himself, angel, I was watching him the whole time. You know that I'd never let anything happen to any of you." He reassured, making me chuckle and shake my head as he kissed my hair. After Peter had revealed his identity to the world and walked away from being Spider-Man ten years ago, he'd done exactly what he had promised to do. Only four months after he'd walked away from that life, he first brought me here, to the plot of land that he'd bought with the intention of building our permanent home on. And it was beautiful. The cabin that Peter had completed three years after we'd first moved here had been placed in the middle of the clearing, trees all around our perfect home and a breathtaking lake occupying the space only two hundred feet from our cabin. It was the perfect place to raise our children, and so we had started to do that. We had had a small wedding on our land five years after Peter had proposed, and before long, I was pregnant for the first time since we'd lost our first baby, all of those years ago. Eight years ago, we'd welcomed our first child, our daughter Mary, named after Peter's late mother. Our five-year-old son, Richard, named after Peter's late father, had joined the family half a decade ago and our third and final baby would make our lives complete in just three months. It was the perfect life. I snapped out of my thoughts as Peter and I headed back into the cabin to see the kids already sat at the table.
