Reign locked her eyes on River, not moving them away for a split second.

"Would you like to repeat yourself, Assessor (advisor)?" Reign asked calmly, as if she wasn't choking her twin.

She must've loosened her grip, as River stopped struggling and looked at Reign, the atmosphere still. None of them said a word, as they observed each other, as Reign snapped her head towards me, and I swallowed my words and stepped back, bowing my head.

Although the Council had adapted the modern society, the hierarchy was just as strict as before.

Along with mutual respect came inflexible authority, as Rei and his Conselheiro stood on top of the pyramid, while the Assessor stood below them, and the Councilors soon followed. The Knights below them all, nonetheless, their position was still above all the mafia leaders

From this alone, the authority of the Council in the underworld could be fathomed.

I had recently been promoted to a Councilor, but my rank and jurisdiction was below both of them, and personally, I wouldn't dare to challenge Reign in the games of power.

"I had given Richard my word of honour, Assessor, and Rei never takes back her word of honour, River. If you as much as affect the course of action, brother, you know I can do much worse, don't you?" Reign asked River, her gaze zeroed on him.

River stared back at her in complete silence, as if trying to communicate with her through it.

"Do you understand, River?" She asked again, as she tightened her hold on him.

River finally nodded, presumably unable to speak.

Reign released him, as River gasped for air and slid down the wall.
Reign looked at him emotionlessly, her gloved hands stuffed in her pocket, as she knelt in front of him.
