rings from a probably outdated telephone wakes up a moody brunette, deena johnson.
"ugh, josh!" the half asleep teenager yells for her younger brother, little does she know he's busy chatting with online acquaintances.
"josh, whatever you're doing better be good," she groans and lifts herself up from bed. she puts on a baggy shirt before walking out of her room to the ringing phone.
"hello?" the annoyed girl says twiddling her thumbs.
a familiar voice replies, "hey there ladykiller, ready for the first day of sophomore year?"
"hell. no. who do you think i am?"
kate sighs into the speaker, "not a morning person, that's for damn sure. alright well, when are you picking us up?"
"us?" deena asks.
"simon and i,"
"god, you know i love him but i hate riding in a car with that idiot." deena rolls her eyes.
"oh that's too bad, put up with it. got to go, pretty sure he just broke my fucking toaster."
deena chuckles and puts the phone on the hook.
walking into the living room she grunts as she bends down to pick up empty beer cans, "i see dad was home," she says sarcastically with a smile she doesn't mean.
after binning the cans she makes her way to the basement, she was curious to see the reason josh couldn't get the phone.
"hey moron!" she yells to no answer.
she walks over.
"hey.." she taps his shoulder. "dumbass, hello?"
josh turns around, startled. "what, deena?" he says in a pissy tone.
"don't start with me, you aren't even supposed to be touching this shit. dad would kill you if he knew," she snatches the keyboard as she says that.
"which is why he won't," josh smirks and rips the keyboard from his sister's hands and begins typing once more.
"i'm going upstairs to get dressed, if you're not ready by then i'm gonna leave you here." she states.
"you would be doing me a favor, i'm not ready for this highschool bullshit." josh sighs.
"how do you think i feel?" she mumbles running up the steps.
— Later
josh grabs his backpack as deena comes up behind him and ruffles his hair.
"hey! i get the ladies with this," he says fixing it.
"yeah, yeah, whatever.." she reaches for her keys on the hook and leaves the house with her little brother following behind.
it's always been that way for them. deena and josh, most inseparable siblings anyone would ever find. josh has always been so influenced by his sister, so much so he would always want to do whatever she was doing. whenever deena got out her toys to play with josh was right behind her. when deena first met kate and simon and started hanging out with them, josh would beg to come along. so you could say they are close.
deena opens the car door and turns the keys in the ignition. josh opens the passenger side door and almost sits.
"ah ah, get in the back," she points with her thumb as she clicks her tongue. "sorry, passenger is for kate."
josh grunts and opens the back door.
the car starts moving forward to pick up her friends.
the vehicle stops at a medium sized brick house, kate and simon spill out the door, each holding their backpacks.
"hey there dee," simon says reaching for the back door as kate climbs in the front. simon lunges forward to shake deena's shoulders, "aaare you excited for schooool?"
deena smacked simon's hands playfully, "knock it off moron, what if i was driving?"
"you weren't." he said with a sarcastic shocked look.
deena looks over, as she starts the car. "how was you're cheer training over the summer?"
kate looks up, "good. well. not good."
deena's looks worried and slightly frowns, "why's that?"
"there's this new girl, she's really good. like remembered our choreography in one practice good, i don't know. i'm just worried about my spot for captain, i guess."
"it'll all be okay, you got this kate." deena smiles and parks the car in her assigned spot.
walking up to school, kate let's out a gasp.
"there! there she is that new girl." she points to a tall blonde girl, holding her books and talking to zeke parr.
zeke parr.
simon leans over kate's shoulder, "can't be that cool if she's talking to that football slinging dickhead, zeke parr."
"yeah simon's right," deena agrees. "yeah, let's uh go, i mean valedictorian wouldn't want to be late to her first class right?" deena jokes with a smug look.
"oh shut up," kate punches deena's shoulder as they walk in.
