Chapter 1 - The Boy Next Door

anyways i hope you like this story, lastly, this story will be revolving around Gary's POV since he's telling the story, there may be little dashes of 3rd Person POV but not so often, also it may be a short story, also for mature content not too sure on that, if will be telling their love story but i have not decided if i'll be doing that yet, if anything i'll give y'all a heads up. 🤍

I remember the day we first met, it was sunny, honestly the start of summer break
I was only 5 when we first met, I have lived with my grandfather as long as I could remember, ever since my parents unfortunately passed away

I looked out the window and saw a moving truck next door, the woman who lived there before moved away, with her daughter she was pretty elderly so it made sense
she was pretty sweet, she had a vegetable and fruit garden and would give some produce to me and my grandfather time by time

"hey Gary, you want to meet the new neighbor's?" my grandfather smiled as I smiled back
"y-yeah sure let me get myself some better shoes" I said as I ran up the stairs and grabbed my black sneakers I then jogged back down the stairs and smiled at him as he lead the way
I smiled when seeing a tricycle at the entrance of the house, there was kids in the neighborhood but many of them had their own siblings and well I didn't ever really bind with any of them, even though I do have an older sister she and I had an age difference

she thought I was annoying I thought she was bossy, very common sense

My grandfather started talking to who I'm guessing would be the lady who would live in the house, I was just standing there hearing them talk and talk and I just would tap my foot and look around
"you must be Gary" she smiled ruffling my hair as I smiled lightly with a nod
"I have a son just your age, Ash dear please come!" she called out happily as a boy come out of the house with a dinosaur plushie
"he's a little shy, but just be gentle" she smiled as I smiled back

"Ash this Gary" she smiled as he waved at me lightly with a small smile and I smiled with a wave as well

With the time passing we became pretty good friends, we'd hangout together i even got words out his mouth, he always would tend to nod or shake his head when I first met him
I then learned more that he suffered from a couple health problems but he was really . . . really strong, I know that because is mom did mention he overcame so many diseases
it very admiring to see someone go through so much and still be so strong

With weeks going by I'd invite Ash over and he would too well his mom would do it for him since he was a shy mess
"bye" I smiled as I waved
"wait!" Ash said then I saw him whisper something in his mom's ear
"oh Ash" she giggled
"Ash says he would like to see you again tomorrow" she giggled as I smiled
"okay!" I nodded and waved as I left
when walking away I felt a tiny rock hit me
"huh?" I rubbed cheek and looked up to see Ash waving at from his window

I laughed and waved back
"bye!" I said with a chuckle as I saw him giggle and a tiny blush spread on his cheeks I shook it off and left

– Time Skip 10 Years –

Ash and I were still very good friends despite the fact he had moved away a bit, but he still came back and moved back into the same house making us neighbor's again
my grandpa was at work when I noticed and I immediately jumped off the couch and went to greet them
"Gary! Long time no see" Delia, Ash's mom smiled hugging me
"yeah it's been a while probably 5 years?" I chuckled as he giggled
"yes exactly" she grinned
"you've grown very handsome, be careful with the ladies" she giggled with a wink as I chuckled
"I will" I chuckled
"where's Ash?" I smiled
"he's inside, go ahead and look for him I'll be out here" she smiled as I nodded and went to see him

I smiled seeing him in the room unloading
I knocked the door lightly and he turned around
"hey" he smiled
"hey, long time no see" I chuckled
"yeah it's been long" he smiled and blushed lightly, it was weird to see that but ignored it and didn't think about it
"so who's your health?" I smiled
"good, my doctor said that I'm fine very healthy in fact, the kidney operation was a success and well I'm not having kidney trouble anymore" he smiled
"I'm glad" I smiled and hugged him which caught him from surprise since he froze

I pulled back and smiled at him racking his hair lightly, his face was a blushing mess but I was quite oblivious to think deep at the time, I was very oblivious I didn't noticed the many butterflies I'd get in my stomach thinking about him, touching him or seeing him
"can I help you with organizing anything?" I smiled as i looked around
"sure, maybe you can help me hang up and posters or organize my plushie's I'm not so good at it" he giggled as I smiled
"deal" I said as I helped him out

"shit, it's 1:30 I better go I have work" I said as Ash smiled
"it's fine, thank you" he smiled
"yeah thanks for understanding" I smiled walking backwards
"be careful!" Ash suddenly said as he grabbed my hand
"what?" I said as I suddenly tripped on a box making me fall back and Ash on top of me

We laughed together until we noticed our noses touching
"sorry!" Ash yelped and got off of me
"why? I was the one who fell and made a joke out of myself" I chuckled as Ash nodded slowly
"oh!" I said before leaving
"I got the day off tomorrow you'd like to do something?" I smiled with a shrug
"yes of course" he nodded

"sweet, I'll see you tomorrow then bye take care of yourself" I said with a smile
"y-you too, bye" he said as I walked off to my house after saying bye to his mom

I got ready for work by showering and all that stuff, I really didn't want to go to work I wanted to spend more time with Ash, he just really means a lot to me

As I walked to my car I looked up
at Ash's window and coincidentally saw him looking at me
I smiled and he blushed madly and closed his curtain making me chuckle to myself

I never thought the boy next door would mean so much to me.
