October 2016.
"Hello?" Andie answered her phone with shock in her voice.
"Andie, hey," the other end peered through.
"Mike, is everything okay?"
"What? I can't call my friend without something being wrong?" He chuckled, causing Andie to soften.
"I don't know, I guess, I'm still getting used to it, you know," she walked around the house as she talked.
"Yeah, I know."
"I'm glad, though. I don't wanna forget again," she sighed. "Why do you think we aren't forgetting?"
"I don't know, but, maybe there's more we want to remember than we want to forget," he guessed.
"Maybe," she paused. "So, to what do I owe the pleasure?"
"I'm just checking up on you, see how you're doing," he mumbled.
"That's really sweet, Mikey. Thank you," she said sweetly. "How are you, though?"
"I'm doing good, much better," he laughed.
"Please tell me that's your way of saying that you're getting the hell out of that town," she joked but there was truth in that, full truth.
"I am leaving for Florida as we speak," he cheered.
"Good for you, Mike! I remember you've always wanted to go," she reminisced. There was silence for a moment that Andie soon broke, "Thank you, Mike."
"For what?"
"Staying. I'm sure it was hell. All alone over these years. Thank you for staying and reminding us of what we were. We owe you, Mike."
"You really don't. But, you're welcome. It definitely was hell," he lightly chuckled. "I love you, Andie."
"I love you too," she replied. "If you're ever near, give me a call, yeah?"
"Will do. Bye, Andie."
"Bye, Mike."
Andie sighed as she hung up the phone. She was glad that Mike had called with news that he was going to start a new life, putting past all the horrors of Derry. And she was really glad that they weren't forgetting again because she didn't want her life to feel void of the family she had. But she was void of one person. Losing Eddie was hard and she knew she was still accepting his death. She had lost before but this time, she was living through it. No more isolating herself, no more pushing away, no more putting up walls. She was living, fully aware as she went through all her feelings. The only difference between now and then, was that she wasn't alone. Her thoughts were interrupted by the creak that originated from the bathroom door.
"Hey."
Andie felt arms wrapped around her waist, with hot breathing against the back of her left shoulder followed by a small kiss on it. "Hey, Stan," she leaned against his bare chest as he pulled her closer, resting his chin on the top of her head while slowly swaying.
"You okay?" He murmured, placing a kiss on her head.
"Mike called," she plainly stated, still staring out the window.
"Everything okay?" His voice was of slight worry as he tilted his head to the side.
"Yeah. He's finally leaving that hellhole," she turned around to meet him.
"That's good," he nodded.
"Yes, it is," she agreed, giggles leaving her lips due to Stanley giving her small kisses.
