As Jake made his way downstairs, his confidence now renewed, he noticed it was... quiet. Too quiet. Usually, the hotel would be bustling. Angel would be flirting with Husk at the bar who would not-so-kindly tell him to "fuck off." Niffty would be zooming around the entire building, cleaning anything that seemed to be even the tiniest bit dirty. Charlie and Vaggie would be discussing how to get more people into the hotel, and Alastor would be watching everything going on, a sadistic smile still on his face.

But there was none of that. Just silence. Out of instinct he draws his knife from his holster. The old wooden stairs creak and groan under his weight, but Jake presses on. After he reaches the first floor, Jake's eyes widen. Furniture was turned over, stuffing from the now ripped couch cushions litters the floor. There were smashed bottles by the bar, their contents spilled on the floor. But the most jarring sight was that there was no one there. Jake checked behind the bar just to see if someone was there and to his surprise, all he found was a terrified Niffty. She makes small whimpers every so often, her eye darting around until it lands on Jake.

Niffty's eye widens as she suddenly gets up and tackles the male with a hug. "Oh thank goodness," she yells, tears forming. "I thought they got everyone and that I was the only one left but you're here and now we can save the others!"

Jake pulls Niffty off of him slightly to look her in the eye. "Niffty, what happened?"

Niffty whimpers. "It was awful! We were all just minding our own business when a limousine pulled up and Valentino came out of it with some other people and then they came inside and they trashed the hotel and they knocked everyone out and they took them away. Oh, everyone except for me, you, and Alastor."

At this point, Jake's horns have formed and he growls. "Thank you, Niffty. C'mon, we'll get this mess cleaned up and then we'll find Alastor. I have a feeling that I know where he is."

Niffty starts darting around the room, collecting the smashed bottles and cleaning up the alcohol on the floor, as well as any dirt on the floor. Jake, using his powers, collects the stuffing from the couch and restuffs the cushions before putting the furniture back in place and and making sure everything is upright.

Once that was all done, Jake and Niffty left the hotel, Jake pausing for a moment to create a "closed" sign and affix it to the door. Jake begins walking away from the hotel, a tearful Niffty on his shoulder.

After 30 minutes of walking, Jake and Niffty find themselves at an unassuming abandoned house. Of course, Jake knew it as his home. His safehouse. Alastor had found it and renovated the inside and gave Jake the key.

Jake lifts up a corner of the doormat to reveal said key before unlocking the door and stepping inside, Niffty still on his shoulder.

Upon entering the house, the pair hear static coming from the living room. When they enter, they see Alastor with his back turned to the door. "Took you long enough," he says, turning to face the pair. For the first time that Jake can recall, Alastor's smile isn't as full as it usually is.

"I assume you know what happened then," Jake says, his eyes and hair starting to change color and his horns beginning to grow.

Alastor nods. "Indeed." Alastor stands from his seat and moves towards Jake. "What are you going to do about it, Jake?"

Jake stands his ground and stares Alastor in the eyes. "Jake isn't going to do anything," Jake says, his voice at a menacing growl.

"The Reaper is coming out of retirement."
