"So um, I don't know how to ask this but. Would you like to accompany me to this ball? It's just that we need a date and Lennox is already going with Kallias and I don't know any other girls so I-"

She starts to get a big smile on her face as I go on.

"Of course I will Blaine, no need to find a stupid excuse." She laughs. I focused on her for a moment, making sure I heard her right.

I let out a sigh. "I was so scared to get rejected, for the first time in my life."

"Well I can still say no-" She rolls her eyes and purses her lips.

"Please be joking." I say, looking desperate.

"Don't worry, I'll be there." she pushes my shoulder back and scoffs at my patheticness. "What's the ball about?" she blinks at me.

"Uh, well I'm not supposed to tell you yet but it's your first mini task. Kallias will explain it in depth later, I needed you to accept to come with me first." She gets a puzzled look on her face.

"A task? I never accepted to get involved in your criminal lives, remember Blaine?"

"I know you didn't Mal, and I'm so sorry but... you have to."

"So this is why I have training tomorrow with the twins? Great." she throws her hands up in the air. Oh no. I made her mad.

"I can go with you if you want?" I ask, trying to calm her down. "No, it's fine. I can train alone." She holds out one hand in front of me.

I turn my eyebrows up. "I'm really sorry, but you have to train your body so that you can defend yourself if you ever encounter another gang while you're with us." She squints at me.

"I really hope it's for the better and you guys are not training me to become a murderer." I stay silent as she looks off to the side, analyzing what I told her.

I decide to leave her alone since she seems overwhelmed.

"Before I go, dress nicely tomorrow. Our family is coming over for dinner." I say before turning around.

"Why am I always told things the day before it happens? You guys are never well organized." She says behind my back, I turn my head back around as I'm halfway out of her room. "That's just how we do it, I'm sorry darling."

She giggles and snickers, "Goodnight hottie." I feel my cheeks get warm as she stares at me. "Goodnight Mal."

I walk out of her room, absolutely breathless. She makes me feel like no one else ever has, it feels like it's only me and her when we're together.

"She's still not awake." Yori says, checking his wrist watch. Lennox leans against the railing of the ends of the stairs. "We've been waiting on her for hours." Lennox exaggerates, throwing her head back.

"Wait, I have an idea." Lennox says with a jump. She practically runs upstairs and ends up at Mal's room. Lennox takes a big breath in.

"YORI DID YOU HEAR WHAT KALLIAS SAID ABOUT MAL?" She shouts into the crack of her door.

A rustling of the doorknob makes Lennox jump back in surprise. "What the fuck is wrong with you." A disheveled Mal says, standing in the doorway.

Lennox pats my head softly. "Well it kinda worked." Lennox says as I blindly see Yori heading to my door.

"Don't do that ever again Lennox." Yori says in an annoyed tone.

"You probably woke up the whole neighbourhood." I say, swaying back and forth trying to ground myself.
