A new friend

Class had just ended. As usual, I'm the last person to leave.

Just as I stepped out of the classroom, a girl approached me.

"Hey, I'm getting straight to the point. I like you, Shuichi" 

Great. Another one. How many people have told me that this week? Too many for me to count.

I think I know her from somewhere... Oh yeah. Music class. She' very talented. Her name was Kaede. Right?

I've had little to no interaction with her. 

Same goes to everyone that confesses to me. 

Is it my looks?

No. Absolutely not. Then... What is it?

...

"Shuichi... Are you okay...?" 

Oh right. What do I say? Maybe I should ask her to be friends, she seems kind.

"Sorry I just zoned out haha.."

"Oh! No worries!"

"So about your confession... I'm flattered, but I'm not interested"

"Oh.. I see..."

Wait. It's my chance. I've heard she's friends with everyone in the school.

She was about to leave when I built enough courage to ask her.

"B-but we can be friends! If you want of course..!"

"Sure!"

Did I just get a friend? Wow.. I'm proud of myself.

I could feel a smile forming on my face. The blonde-haired girl also smiled, it's almost like she forgot that she just got rejected.

We spoke for a while, we actually had a lot in common. More than I'd expected. Eventually, she had to leave, since she needed to help the student council with paperwork, so we exchanged numbers and she promised, she'd text me after school.

I was getting hungry, so I headed off to the cafeteria to eat lunch.
