Conflicts of the Merge

You find yourself in the temple that Monika had described to you. Out of curiosity, you look at the statues dedicated to the original Dimension Stabilizers. You can feel an elegiac aura emanate from seeing how Thor, Zeus, and Dagon were once predominant throughout existence, but now they only remain as nothing more than legends. After dedicating a few moments of silence to respect the fallen, you decide to explore. Bright orbs begin to circle around you.

"Be careful, Y/N!" A voice calls out. "You are about to face the consequences of your actions!"

You prevent yourself from lunging out of bed. After catching your breath, you plop back on your bed. Suddenly, you feel a hand press up against your face. Monika had fallen asleep with you.

Wait, Monika fell asleep with you. The family is home, and you didn't let them know that she was staying overnight. But as you begin to brainstorm how to explain to your family that a girl slept over, your alarm rings. Monika opens her eyes and looks at you. Suddenly, she hugs you.

Her emerald green eyes begin to melt your soul away. Although you feel concerned about your family, you feel like an explanation can be made as long as you can give a genuine apology. After a minute of hugging, you quickly shower up. After you finish, you and Monika begin to talk about the day and your plans whilst cuddling. However, your brother walks in on you. His eyes narrow in on the situation. He just woke up so he doesn't know you showered, he sees a blanket almost completely covering you, and you're in bed with a girl.

"Nice, dude!" He says. "Didn't I tell you that you'd find someone? May've went a few steps too fast, but whatever!"

You blush at the accusation. Monika decides to step out of bed first.

"Greetings, you must be Y/N's brother." She says, initiating a handshake.

"Precisely," he replies. "Who are you?"

"My name is Emma Greens," she says. "Y/N and I met online a few days back, and I decided to drop by last night!"

"Huh, neat." Your brother replies. "Nice cosplay by the way. Should've been Yuri though!"

You wince at that statement while Monika cringes. Your brother laughs, and leaves your room. As you and Monika blankly stare off, your phone rings. John is calling you on discord. You quickly accept the call and greet him.

"Dude, did you hear about what happened?" He asks.

"No," you reply. "What's going on?"

"DDLC is completely broken!" He says. "Every version of the game crashes once you meet Monika!"

"That's weird," you say whilst looking at your girlfriend. "Any idea on when it'll be fixed?"

"I have no idea," John replies. "I'm just glad you finished the game before this happened!"

You hear Cecil say something to John.

"Oh, sorry about that dude." John says.

A realization hits you. Cecil likely stayed up all night at John's and probably got an hour or two of sleep. Wouldn't be the first time that happened. Before you could say anything, John abruptly hangs up.

"Why do you think that happened?" You ask Monika.

"What do you mean by that?" She responds.

"The game crashing," you respond. "Does this have to do with you exiting the game?"

"I thought I fixed that issue," she begins. "But apparently I must've messed up on something when setting up the other Monika."

"There's another one?" You ask.

"Yeah, don't you remember?" She responds. "You two danced in VR before I surprised you!"

Oh, duh! You feel stupid for forgetting that.

"Do you plan on fixing the other one?" You ask. "Because I'm pretty sure Team Salvato won't be pleased if they somehow find out about what we're doing."

"That's if they do," she responds. "If something bad happens to me, I'll try to create a backup file of myself as soon as I can."

Your brother opens the door in a less-than-gentle manner. Suspiciously, he gazes at Monika.

"I'll be damned." He states. "Unless if you're having some sort of roleplay session before school, then I'm truly interested in what you two are talking about."

"Okay, so what I did might not be the most orthodox way of having a relationship, but I guarantee that we're both happy with each other!" You tell him.

"Dude," he responds. "You somehow managed to create an AI of a nonexistent character for a romantic relationship, and it's having realistic ramifications to the planes of existence."

"How would you feel if I told you that we have Dimensional Stabilizers who guard and balance the universes, and they approved of this relationship?" You ask.

He raises his eyebrows and asks you, "What the hell are you on about? All I'm just saying is that this whole thing is rather reckless. Both of you should realize that."

"I know what I'm doing." You tell him. "I won't be doing more of this, I just wanted to save her!"

"Do you hear the words you're saying?" He asks. "She's a fictional character, Y/N! Her life is up to the creator to decide! You should be ashamed of how delusional you are by making this thing real. I mean, look at her!"

He points to her.

"She looks like us, but do you think that this is acceptable?" He asks. "Doesn't help that she's just an AI. She's essentially just a computer that does what it's told. Think, Y/N! She can't love you!"

Monika's expression changes from shock to anger. She sighs before slowly approaching him. Swiftly, she grabs him by the shoulder.

"I don't appreciate the way you're talking to your brother," she says. "I want to clarify that I am capable of my own thoughts and decisions, since you were just accusing me of the opposite."

She lets go of his shoulder and says, "Y/N modded the game so I could be more than just a virtual machine forced to regurgitate the same lines of coding. He let me have the choice to love him rather than just going by the script. He gave me life."

"I know this isn't normal," you say to your brother. "But I'm happy, and she's helping me strive to be better."

Your brother looks at you and Monika. He sighs, then nods in respect.

"I'm sorry for the outburst," he says. "I just want you to be safe. Okay, Y/N?"

You hug him.

"Of course, bro!" You respond. "I promise I'll be safe."

He looks at Monika. "Please take care of him," he sincerely says. She gives him a reassuring smile.

The day moves on normally afterwards. You head off to school, and go through your typical routine of finishing everything during study hall. You wouldn't want to miss out on your movie night!
