The cool breeze of December welcomed the students of SNK High. Mikasa sat quietly on her desk, doodling random faces on the back of her notebook, brainstorming for possible ideas for the Christmas Party that's going to be held in 3 weeks.
Since their third and fourth subjects are vacant, Mikasa let her classmates do whatever they want as long as they won't disturb the class next door.
"It's colder than usual." Annie commented. Armin looked at her before hooking his arm around her shoulders, much to Mikasa's annoyance.
"Can you like, respect the singles out here." Mikasa asked sarcastically. Both blondes laughed.
Annie snuggled closer towards Armin's side, looking at Mikasa with a smug look. "Mikasa, modern problems requires modern solutions."
Mikasa raised her eyebrows, "What?"
Armin chuckled, "What Annie meant is, look for a boyfriend."
"I'm busy these days, I have no time for that." Mikasa reasoned out.
Annie rolled her eyes, "Come on, Mikasa. There are a lot of students here, it's impossible to not get attracted to any one of them."
"It's Mikasa, boo. It's possible." Armin commented. Mikasa crumpled up the paper she's doodling on and threw it at Armin's direction.
Annie leaned in closer towards Mikasa, resting her chin against the palm of her hand. "There isn't even one guy you think is attractive?"
Mikasa blinked. Suddenly, an image of a sweaty Eren after playing soccer passed by, followed by a grinning Eren, with eyes turning into slits. Mikasa shook her head to get rid of the images.
"Why?" Annie asked.
"Nothing. It's nothing."
Knowing Mikasa, the sudden thought of the younger boy is something she wouldn't pass on. It was so random, it made Mikasa a tad bit worried.
It's normal, right? Thinking of a friend at the middle of a conversation. Mikasa sighed and shook her head before adjusting the stack of papers she's holding, reminding herself to give Annie some paperworks after school.
Eren sighed for the nth time the moment history class started. With his chin resting on the palm of his hands, he stared at the window as he watched students pass by in the hallway.
Boredom was evident in his eyes, too lazy to complain about the noise Connie is making from behind him as the boy eats his chips in secret. A familiar black haired lady caught his attention, smiling as he saw her beautiful face.
Head perked up like a puppy excited for his owner's return, Eren waved towards where Mikasa is. The girl saw someone from her peripheral vision, and sure enough, it was the one and only Eren Yeager.
She offered a smile before walking away rather hastily. She didn't know why, but looking at Eren's face made her a nervous wreck. The boy tilted his head as he followed Mikasa's figure before disappearing into a corner.
The moment he went home after the festival, tons of questions bombarded his head. It was an unsual feeling, it left Eren confused throughout the night.
Mikasa's lingering touch on his hand were still there even after he washed himself up, and kiss, it was all Eren thought about the whole weekend. Having these kind of feeling wasn't new to Eren, he liked tons of girls before, but this was new.
It was something he feels with familiarity, yet it feels so new to the point he overthinks what it was.
Could it be attraction? Infatuation? Admiration? Perhaps, love?
Mikasa Ackerman is attractive, Eren admits that. But, she's more than that. Behind her tough and strict facade, there's this girl that didn't believed in herself and struggles with how people view her as a person. She seems fragile, to the point where Eren wants to shield her from the hasty words, yet; she's so brave because she's true to her words and never accepts defeat.
They only spent a couple of months together hanging out, but Eren feels like she knew her like the back of his hand. Mikasa looks mysterious, but for Eren, she's like an open book.
Or maybe because she's just comfortable around him to finally be able to let her guard down and witness her fragile state. It felt like an achievement, to gain Mikasa's trust. He would gladly held his shoulder out to carry the excess burden Mikasa is carrying.
He's just doing it as a friend, right? Friends do that.
But a friend would definitely not be thinking at how Mikasa would look like between his arms.
"Ren, you good?" Jean's voice echoed throughout the room. Eren looked around to find most of his classmates already outside for lunch.
Eren nodded, "Yeah. Let's go."
"You seem occupied." Sasha said in a suggestive tone. Connie then looked at him with a knowing look.
"Is it because of Mi—"
Jean halted suddenly, sticking his arm out, also stopping his friends. The three followed Jean's gaze to the front where the upper grades are in line.
"She's here. Holy shit, she's so beautiful." Jean exclaimed, a tinge of pink evident on his cheeks.
"Who?" Connie asked.
"The one with the black hair, the one on the first line." Jean replied, not even glancing at Connie as his eyes were still fixated on a certain girl.
Eren looked at him before scanning the line of upper graders standing. His eyes widened as his gaze fell upon Mikasa, who is talking to a girl behind her.
He didn't know why, maybe his emotions went haywire. The moment Jean stopped staring, Eren stood in front of him and looked at him in the eye.
"Uh, dude? Are you murdering me on your mind or somethin'?" Jean asked before laughing nervously. He isn't afraid of Eren since he almost looked like a helpless puppy, but from here, it made his throat run dry.
"If you want to get Mikasa," Eren started, pointing towards Mikasa's direction, "You have to go through me."
With that, he walked away. Eren's mind was clouded by something he isn't familiar with, it was like a switch was turned on. He internally cringed at the scene he made in front of his friends.
"I have to apologize to Jean later." Eren said to himself before walking towards where Mikasa is. She greeted with a small smile, to which reciprocated with a grin. She never failed to make him happy with just a simple gesture.
"What was that all about?" Sasha asked, still dazed.
Jean's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "What does he mean by 'getting Mikasa'?"
"Dude, aren't you looking at her like some art earlier?" Connie said, stating the obvious.
That made Jean even more confused.
"I was talking about Pieck."
