Watching her smile and answer each question with ease was the only thing stopping him from walking out. He studied her; her layered ginger hair was now loosely kept up with a clip except for two front hairs that managed to escape. 

The sound of the school bell alerted him from his day dreaming. Packing up his books quickly he whizzed through the classroom door. They had to talk. They hadn't spoken in several days. Maybe it was his fault. 

"Jackson." That soft delicate voice sang out his name.

He turned around.

"Jackson, I'm so sorry I didn't call you or text but I knew you that I had scared you off. If I upset you I'm really sorry." Everestt stumbled on words like a baby learning how to walk. He couldn't help but smile. It was cute.

"Hey. It's okay I just wanted you to know that I still want to be your friend and I missed talking to you. You still need to show me who your ex is. I really want to meet him." , reminded Jackson, who was itching to meet this j*ckass.

Chestnut eyes started back at him, joy shining through them. 

"I will but only if you promise to not say or do anything that could get you in trouble." 

No one had ever asked Jackson to promise anything except for his mother. When she was on her death bed, he had promised that he would try and be the best son for his father and stay out of trouble. That promise had been broken long ago and he didn't yet know how to mend it.

"I promise," was the only thing Jackson said. He wasn't going to break another promise, especially to someone who he cared about.

Lunch with Everestt was now Jackson's favourite thing. Her laugh was like music to his ears and it was his favourite song. The way how her hair fell carelessly over her shoulders. The way how her cheeks flushed pink. It was amazing. She was beautiful yet she was oblivious to it. Oblivious to the fact that men watched her everywhere she went because of her extraordinary beauty. In that moment Jackson felt a fuzzy feeling in the pit of his stomach, something he had never felt before.

A rough hand touched his shoulders. Thanks to his father, Jackson didn't jump. He didn't flitch anymore when something scared him. 

"Men don't get scared.", his father's gruffy voice rang through his ears.

"I haven't seen you around here so I'm guessing you're new but this is my girlfriend and I would greatly appreciate it if you didn't flirt with her so much. It comes across desperate." 

"Sam, can you just leave us alone? I haven't forgotten about the text you sent me. You said it yourself. We are over." Everestt's voice grew with confidence the more she spoke surprising both herself and Sam. Jackson knew she had it in her.

"Baby, don't be like that. I was just playing about. Trying to get ya attention. I swear. Do you think I could ever cheat on my baby?" Every word coming from Sam's mouth was a blatant lie, every sentence sprinkled with a whole pile of crap.

Finally removing Sam's hand off him, Jackson stood up. Realising the height difference, Everestt couldn't help but laugh. Sam was only 5'5 while Jackson was 6ft.

"Oh...Sam that's your name. I knew you would be out of Everestt's league but damn she was really doing charity work. From what I'm hearing Everestt doesn't want you here so why don't you be a pretty boy before I let the whole school know that I can kick your ass." 

Sam couldn't believe his ears. Someone had stood up to him. Him. Sam. The guy that everyone wants to be and the guy that every girl wants to be with. The humiliation was already excruciating enough for his ego so he decided to walk away while he still could.
