"Quarrel with a friend and you are both wrong."
~Lao TsuThey went on as the wind picked up. Leaves swirled around them, and Ruby had been forced her hood over her head. Yang had one arm held up to shield her face, and Blake's hair was blowing around madly, her scarf pulled up to cover her neck. Weiss seemed unfazed, besides having narrowed her eyes.
"Ice queen," Ruby teased.
"Shut up."
"What time did we have to be back again?" Blake asked. They all looked at each other blankly.
"What time is it now?" Yang added, batting a large leaf away from her face. No-one offered an answer. They'd come across plenty of Grimm - it was about time they headed back.
Blake shivered at the cold. She longed to be in front of a fire. "Pretty much sundown. So about seven?"
Weiss's eyes widened in horror. "The school day ended a couple of hours ago!" And with that, she sprinted off. The others exchanged amused glances then took off after her, teeth chattering.
The temperature dropped even further as the sun went down. By the time they'd got back to the tree, (a couple of ursas later,) they were in darkness. Weiss looked like she might have a panic attack.
"We are two and a half hours late. They will have left without us!"
Weiss had gone so fast Yang and Blake were completely out of breath. Ruby of course had managed through using her semblance, but Blake at least was completely drained. She'd had to use her aura to put on extra speed and keep up - Weiss was taking this incredibly badly. She guessed Yang had done the same - she was bent over, panting.
"What on earth do you think you're doing?"
Blake flinched as she heard the harsh voice of Glynda Goodwitch. Ruby took the lead, making up the most brilliant story Blake had ever heard.
"Well, you see, miss, we were down near the train tracks, and we saw a bunch of those deer Grimm. Like, heaps. But Yang got really hurt, and we couldn't move on until she could heal herself with aura and things, so that happened, and it took a while. Honestly, we were stuck down their for ages - we're really, really sorry miss. We tried to get back here as quickly as we could..."
Well, the last bit's true, Blake mused.
Weiss looked just about ready to explode, but she stayed quiet, knowing full well that it would be better to stay on Glynda's good side, even if it meant going along with Ruby's lie.
"Where did she get hurt?"
"My cheek," Yang cut in, showing Glynda the remains of what they wanted her to believe was once a terrible wound. "I couldn't heal it completely. I think it'll scar."
Glynda narrowed her eyes. "It looks like a scratch."
"It was much worse before," Yang assured her. Blake mentally went through the lies the lies they'd told to teachers today. The bed, the scratch...they were on a roll.
It was obvious Glynda didn't believe them, but she didn't press the matter. All she did was give Yang a sharp blow with her crop on her already sore cheek. Blake winced as her friend recoiled, her eyes flashing crimson for a moment, but they quickly returned to normal. She didn't appear to be terribly affected though, thanks to her semblance. Glynda must have known this.
And that's two teachers we couldn't fool...
They all rather submissively followed Glynda back to the train. The others tripped a couple of times in the dark, but Blake could see alright, and Glynda was beyond tripping. She elegantly led them over to the train, which was still full of older students.
