Chapter Ten: Constant Dreaming
Anala's pov:
It's been about a week since Marcos's death and I am just now walking into my new room for the first time. It's very spacious and down the hall from Mateos's room. Luckily Sage's room is far on the other side of the house, so hopefully, I don't have to deal with her often.
My room has a queen-sized bed, a desk, and a dresser. The walls are painted light grey and it needs some personality or something because it feels very impersonal.
"Anala, come on. Dinner is ready," Mateo calls for me. I set my bags on the bed before heading to the dining room.
I have been inside Mateo's house a million times; I've seen almost every room more than once. But ever since the first time I'd been to the house, I have always had an obsession with the library. I make a note to visit it after dinner.
A few years ago when Marco was helping Mateo out and I had come along, I ended up in the library. It may have been one of the smallest rooms in the house and one of the least visited rooms, but I've always had a love for it.
I walk over next to Mateo and see that Nick, the cook, has made a whole-ass buffet with any food you could ever imagine. I also notice that all of Mateos men stand just behind their chairs, they are all silent and looking at Mateo. I look around a bit confused. Mateo sees me and lets out a small chuckle.
"They wait for me to sit down before they do, It's a respect thing." He says, I nod. Do I need to wait? I feel like I should, plus Mateo is my boss now. Mateo sits then nods his head and all of his men sit down, I follow the guys' leads.
I may hate following men around or anyone for that matter but I really don't wanna stand out too much right now. Mateo is at the head of the table, I'm sitting to his left and Kaz is to his right aka across from me. Jay is next to me and Nick is next to Kaz.
Conversations break out around the table, too many for me to focus on just one. Mateo talks to Kaz, Jay, and Nick. They are talking about who knows what and I simply sit there moving the food around on my plate.
I haven't been able to eat much since that night. I try to eat at least a little on my plate but I can't. I see Nick looking at me from the corner of my eye, I look up and he looks away.
"So Anala, are you staying here now?" Jay asks, snapping me into reality.
"Yeah," I say while looking and feeling uninterested. I can't shake the fact that I am sitting in a room full of people who helped kill my father. I listen in on conversations, staying quiet. I get bored sitting at the table and I go to stand up.
"We don't leave till he does," Jay says, nodding toward Mateo.
"Oh shit my bad." I rub my face with my hands. I just don't wanna be here.
I start messing with my rings, sliding them on and off my fingers. I can feel my hands becoming sweaty as my rings become harder to move.
The fidgeting and sweaty hands have been some new habits I wished I didn't have. I sit in the chair, my breathing becomes heavier and I know that I need to leave. I can feel my vision growing blurry.
I am snapped back into reality when Mateo's hand grips my shoulder and starts shaking me. I looked around the room to see that most of the chairs were empty. Kaz, Jay and Nick sit in their chairs looking concerned. I look at Mateo, who looks more concerned than the other guys.
"Anala, I have said your name like ten times. Are you okay?" Mateo asked. I nod my head. How long was I out of it? I look around once more. Mateo pulls out his chair once more and sits down, still looking at me.
