In every relationship there are issues that all couples must face. Some big, some small. Some of which you can't overcome and continue and others are ones that break the relationship in two and are nearly impossible to mend. Now I said nearly impossible. Because sometimes when a relationship seems to be completely broken and you are emotionally drained from fixing it and you just give up. There is always a small thread holding it together and with time you can keep adding more and more threads until you fix what was once broken.
The problems started after the incident. The incident in which Cedric was nearly killed by Voldemort. Which for most they would think that this would make a relationship stronger but for some reason for you and Cedric it had caused a rift between the two of you. It just felt like you would just start fighting for no reason and anchor into the argument because you can't remember why you were fighting in the first place. It was just so exhausting. You loved him so much. That's what hurt so much.
It started as a normal day. It was bright and sunny and the castle was filled with joy as you got ready to pack up for the summer. You were happy to be able to spend a few weeks away from the school and refresh and get over what happened that year. It was the longest year that you had had since joining Hogwarts and next year was your final year which meant that you had a lot of work ahead of you but you were prepared. For a good few of your friends they were scared of next year and what was to come after but for you the thing that scared you the most was what was going on with Cedric. You just knew that something big was going on and you didn't know what that meant for the two of you.
You had finished packing your bag and decided to go and get some fresh air seeing as you had been cooped up in the castle all day because of how much you had to do. You walked down towards the lake. You once loved the view of it but after the torments you couldn't look at it the same way. You couldn't remember much about being underwater all you remember was reaching the surface and being in his arms. You felt so relieved seeing his face. That was something that you hadn't felt in a long time.
Walking further along the lake you come to see Cedric sitting at the side just staring off into the distance. His face was emotionless. It shocked you to see the boy that you once loved so broken. He didn't have the smile on his face that he once did. It broke you. "Hey" you say as you sit down next to him. He doesn't move. He doesn't even really ignollage that you are there. Just blank. You sigh. "What's going on with us Cedric? I mean what are we even doing anymore" you ask him. He moves his head down and looks at his lap.
"I'm leaving" he confesses. That wasn't what you expected to come out of his mouth. "What do you mean you are leaving. I mean you still have a year left ''I ask and he nods. "I know but Dumbledore and I have worked something out and I will still graduate next year like everyone else" he explains and you just sit there shocked. "Where are you going?" I asked him. He shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. All I know is that I can't be here. I can't look at this place the same way. I used to love it here. And now all I see when I look at it is hurt. How much hurt this place has caused" he says. You nod your head with tears coming down your face. "So tell me Cedric. Where do I fit in with this" you ask him. He just sighs before turning to you and looking you in the eye. "I think we both know what this means," he says. And you break. You knew that this was the end. Did you want the last 2 years to end. No. But it takes two to have a relationship.
"I'm sorry Y/N" he says before standing up and leaving you sitting by the lake on your own.
In the years following the breakup you recovered. You finished Hogwarts and moved on to become an Archivist. You know that many would find your job boring but for you it was something different and interesting. When it came to Cedric you had only seen him a handful of times since finishing but it was only after the battle of Hogwarts that you probably saw him again.
You were sitting home after work reading a book when you heard a knock at the door. You didn't know who was here at this time in the evening but you didn't expect to see Cedric standing in front of you when you opened your door. "Cedric what are you doing here" you ask him shocked at him being there. He looked nervous. "I need to see you," he says. You lean against your door confused. "Cedric it has been years since i have seen you why do you now have to see me" you ask him. He just sighs. "Because after the battle I realized that I need to give you an explanation for why I left and broke up with you," he confessed. You sigh again. "I left because I needed to be put into therapy. After everything that happened I had PTSD. My father knew that me being in Hogwarts was causing me more harm than good and decided to take me out and put me into a program to get me better. I broke up with you because I didn't have to deal with you. Especially in the last year of school" he confesses. You just sigh taking in the information. You know that after everything that happened it had caused him harm and now when he reveals the extent you know that his intentions were good.
You nod your head at him. "Thank you for telling me Cedric" you say with a smile. He nods his head at you. "I'm sorry Y/NI really am. I just hope that one day i will be able to make it up to you" he says before walking away leaving you once again.
Authors note - I'm sorry that this was absolutely shit.
