When It Rains

The pitter-patter of water droplets is what awoke Amity that morning. She moaned, rubbing her eyes as she adjusted to her surrounding. Currently, she was lying on an uncomfortable blow-up mattress on the floor of her girlfriend's room. She rolled on her side and looked up at Luz, whose hand had fallen off the bed and almost smacked her in the face.

And suddenly, the rain began pouring.

Panic rose in the young Blight. Rain. But the human realm didn't have magic, so how would they be safe? Surely there was some way the humans did it, but somehow that thought didn't cross Amity's mind. She, in her half-asleep state, was thoroughly concerned for everyone's safety. She bolted upright, causing the girl on the bed to startle awake.

"Jeez, what time is it?" Opening a single eye, Luz looked towards Amity.

"Luz. Rain."

"Mhm."

"Rain!"

"Yeah, it's raining..." she trailed off, almost succumbing to sleep once again. Though, not until Amity jumped on the bed and shook her by the shoulders.

"Rain! Luz, come on, it's not-"

"It's just rain," she whined, trying to reach up towards Amity for a good-morning hug, but she was now pacing across the room. "Oh, oh, wait. Lemme explain," sitting up, she stretched out and yawned. "But first, tooth brushing time!"

As she stood in front of the bathroom sink, Amity rocked back and forth on the toilet seat, nervously looking towards the door and back at Luz. Finally, she spat out the toothpaste and turned to the lavender-haired girl again. "Okay, so the rain here is a lot different than in the Boiling Isles. Come with me."

Taking each other's hand, they walked down the stairs, Luz opening the back door and sticking a hand out. "Wait-" Amity objected before the girl skipped out the door and into the outside world.

"It's okay! Here, on Earth at least, the rain is just water. Not boiling, not acid, not harmful. Just normal water."

She raised her eyebrow skeptically, "How?"

"Precipitation."

"Precipi- what?"

"Oh. Uhh, well, hm," she thought for a moment. "Okay, I definitely 100% know how the water cycle works, I swear, it's just hard to condense it all into a sentence. Hah, get it, cause condensation- never mind."

"This is complicated."

"Hey, you should've seen me when I first came to the demon realm. It was so confusing." A loud crack of thunder startled the two, and Luz hurriedly ran back inside, "And that's the end of that!"

"Why?"

"Lightning."

"Lightning? As in-" a flash of light shined in the sky, with another loud boom following. "Oh."

"Anyways," Luz began shaking out the water in her hair, "Breakfast time?"
