A Spider-Man Story

Chapter 7: The Murder

He almost falls asleep until he hears a crash come from his room. He wakes right back up, "Hello? Is anyone there?" Just then he hears a deep voice that shakes him to his core, "You killed a cop and you almost killed Spider-Man. You will pay for what you did." Then a dark figure with white eyes yanks him out of his bed. John tries to plead, "Please. Please don't do this. I know I'll pay for it but please don't kill me. I don't want to die." The figure just stands there holding John by the shirt, " Yes you will pay. But you will also die." John's screams echo through the hall. Security rush to his room and see a large human size hole in his wall. They look at the floor and see John is dead. He has been decapitated.

    Back at the Hospital: Alex wakes in a dark place. The same dark place his dreams have taken place in. He looks around but something's different. He looks at the floor and it's red. It's blood. Alex keeps walking as he hears a sound of guns firing. Alex jumps into the air and starts swinging. He gets to a warehouse. The same one John had him in. He hears yelling coming from inside. He smashes through the door. He sees Peter on the floor. Alex kneels next to him, "Hey, hey. It's okay, you'll be okay." Peter looks up at Alex, "You, you did this." Alex looks confused, "What?" Alex hears a loud bang come from behind him. He looks down at his chest and realizes he's been shot. He falls to the ground and gurgles on his own blood. He hears footsteps approach him. He looks up and sees Jose wearing a Spider-Man suit. Before he can speak Jose raises his gun, "Goodbye Spider-Man." Then he shoots his gun.

    Alex wakes up in his hospital bed. He's sweating and he realizes it was just a dream. He looks around to see if he sees Vanessa. Then he remembers she's gone. He turns on the T.V and sees the news is playing. The news journalist says, "We are at the Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. Where John, a man who murdered his family, kidnapped Spider-Man,  killed a police officer, and robbed a bank was being held. He was killed earlier tonight. Security has stated that a human-sized hole was in the wall along with John's dead body. It seems like he was decapitated." Alex's interest peaks. He calls Jose. But he didn't answer. Alex looks at his phone. It is four in the morning, "Jose probably isn't awake right now. I'll tell him what happened later when he visits."

    Alex manages to go back to sleep. But he wakes up to a knock on his door. He springs up, sitting on his bed. He rubs his eyes and looks up. It's Jose, "Hey man, sorry I didn't answer your phone I was sleeping." Alex nodded, "It's okay, I figured you were sleeping. Did you hear?" Jose looks at Alex confused, "Hear what?" Alex motions to Jose to come closer, "John was murdered last night." Jose looks shocked, "Wait what? What do you mean by murdered?" Alex motions Jose to sit down, "The police found a human-size hole in the wall and John's body."
"Do they know what happened to the body?" Alex nods, "Yeah, he was decapitated." Jose's eyes widen, "Decapitated? That's gruesome. But I won't say he didn't deserve it." Alex shakes his head at Jose's remark, "Just because he deserved it doesn't mean it needed to be done." Jose scoffs, "Listen, I get why you don't kill. But what if they break out of prison. What then?" Alex looks at Jose, "You do realize that not many people have escaped prison right?" Jose nods, "I know but still. Some people deserve worse fates. Anyways, let's change the subject. How are you feeling?" Alex rubs his face, "My stitches still hurt. The doctor said I could be out in a day or two." Jose smiles, "That's really good, let me know whenever that is so I can take you home." Alex nods.

After Jose leaves Alex is sitting on his bed. He looks up at the T.V. A cooking show is on. He goes through different channels but there isn't anything interesting he wants to watch. He decides he should go to sleep. But he sees his phone. He picks it up and sees a picture of him and Vanessa smiling, "I miss you." He rubs her face on the phone and sets it down. He falls asleep. He wakes up the next morning and feels very refreshed. The doctor knocks on the door, "Hi Alexander, how are you feeling?" Alex thinks, "I feel better doctor. Do you think I can go home?" The doctor shakes his head, "Not yet Alex. We need to run more tests first. Have you been feeling nauseous?" Alex nods, "Yes." The doctor writes it down, "Have you had headaches?" Alex nods again, "Yes." The doctor wrote it down,  "Okay, we will keep you here for one more day."

Alex is frustrated because he wants to go home. He is hoping Vanessa didn't leave. He is hoping he can apologize to her. His phone rings, he picks it up, "Hello?" It's the scientist, "Hey Alex, there's a robbery on Wolcott Street. It's really bad." Alex rubs his eyes, "I'm still in the hospital and I won't be able to sneak out." Then he hears gunshots, "Please Alex! They need you." Alex looks at his suit and suits up, "Okay I'm on my way." He jumps out of the window and swings off.  When he gets there he realizes it isn't just a robbery but a gang war. He sees the police and drops next to them, "Hey guys, what can I do?" An officer looks at Alex, "There's people in those houses, do you think you can get them out?" Alex nods, "On it." Alex jumps through a window and sees children scared out of their minds, "Hey, it's okay. You guys will be okay." Then his spider sense starts tingling. He notices a bullet is about to reach a kid's chest and he catches the bullet before it can make contact, "Okay, let's get you guys out of here. "

He gets the children out the back door and to safety. An officer nods at him and he nods back, "Hey Spider-Man use this." The officer hands him a megaphone, "Thanks." Alex swings onto a building. His ears start ringing though, his headache gets worse, and his vision gets blurry, "Oh no." But he shakes it off, "Guys stop! We don't need anymore dead bodies on the street." The police and gang stop shooting. Alex jumps down into the middle of them. People around them start to record, "It isn't worth losing your lives. So please stop."
The gang puts their guns down and so does the police, "There has been so much violence and way too many crimes lately. This violence needs to stop. And if you don't agree with me then shoot me I don't care. I know the cops already know what I said. But do you guys know?" Alex gets closer to the gang, "Like I said, shoot me if you don't agree with me." Some people clap but the gang lift up their guns, "Crap." Alex jumps up and fights the gang. There were at least ten men. But he fought them all. He looks around and nods to one of the officers and swings away. He gets back to the hospital and lays down.

He feels exhausted. Jose comes in without knocking, "What were you thinking going out there?" Alex shrugs his shoulders, "Listen, people needed Spider-Man, okay? I had to do what I had to." Jose scoffs, "And I respect that but you could've gotten hurt. Or worse." Alex looks at Jose, "Really you too? I understand you're worried but please you have to understand I didn't have a choice." Jose nods, "I'm sorry and it's true I am worried. I just don't want to see you get hurt Alex. I understand you have a responsibility to the city but still please be careful next time." Alex nods, "I know, thank you for understanding bro." They shake hands and Jose leaves. Alex feels really tired. He eventually falls asleep.

Back at Home: Vanessa is packing her things. She sits down and writes a letter as she drinks. She's been drinking all night, "Can't believe Alex picked Spider-Man over me. Now I have to move away and resign to get away from him." She grabs a beer bottle and heads to the lab. She struggles to walk into the lab. She grabs a can of gasoline and pours gasoline everywhere, "Goodbye little spiders." She lights the lab on fire. Everything burns. Vanessa hears sirens in the distance and drives off. She's leaving Connecticut and going to New York. But what she didn't realize is that a spider hitched a ride with her on her shirt. The spider is the same one that bit Alex.

In an Alley: A woman is being chased by a gang member, "Please just leave me alone!" She runs into a corner. The man walks behind her, "Looks like you're stuck here with me." He laughs until he hears something drop behind him, "Huh? Who's there?" A dark figure comes out of the shadows, "Your worst nightmare." The figure grabs the gang member by the throat and starts choking him out. The petrified woman pulls out her phone. The dark figure makes the man kneel, "Night night." The figure punches the gang member's head off and is about to walk away before the woman asks him, "Who are you?" The figure jumped up but as he was jumping the woman took a picture. She is shocked by what she sees. It was a spider emblem. She calls 911 and tells the police everything, "Officer I know who did this." The officer looks at the woman confused, "You know who? Who is it?" The woman pulls out her phone and shows the officer the picture, "It's Spider-Man. He probably killed John too." The officer looks shocked, "Are you sure that's Spider-Man." The woman nods. The officer looks at his fellow officers, "Guys, we just found our murder suspect. Put out an APB on Spider-Man. We have to stop him."
