A Spider-Man Story

Chapter 2: Ruined Date

Alex wakes up in a dark alley. He sees a lot of people. His mom, Vanessa, Jose, his sister. He tries to walk up to them but they disappear before he can touch them. Jose looks at him, "Why? Why did you do that?" Alex says back, "What did I do?" Jose grabs him by the shirt, "You turned your back on me! You got powers while I had to stay without them!" Alex tries to grab him but he disappears too. The last person he sees is Vanessa. Vanessa looks at him crying, "Why didn't you just propose to me? We could have been married by now." Alex walks up to her and they touch heads, "My love. We have dated for five years. I wanted to make sure you're the one. And I am sure now." Everything turns white.

    Vanessa asks the doctor, "Is he okay doctor?" The doctor looks at his charts, "He will be, I'll make sure of it." Vanessa starts to cry. She feels a hand on her shoulder. It's Jose, "He'll be okay Vanessa." He tells her. She smacks his arm away, "This is your fault! If you didn't convince him to get powers and get bit by spiders he wouldn't be in this situation!" Jose raises his hands, "You know it's been a dream of his ever since he was a kid! I helped him fulfill those dreams." Vanessa looks at Jose, "I think you should leave." Jose puts a surprised look on his face, "You want me to leave?" Vanessa responds coldly, "Yes." Jose scoffs, "Okay fine if that's how it's gonna be then so be it." He storms out of the hospital as the doctor walks up to Vanessa, "He's awake, you can see him." Vanessa nods and walks away with the doctor.

    "Alex? Are you okay baby?" Alex groans softly, "What happened?" Vanessa holds his hand as she silently starts crying, "You passed out while we were having dinner. I was so worried about you, my love you don't even know." Alex starts to sit up a little, "Oh. I'm so sorry baby. I think it was a reaction to the spider bite." The doctor looks at Alex, "I noticed the bite on your arm. And I ran some blood tests so we are just waiting for the results so come in and I will let you know if you're free to go." Alex tries to get up but he can't, "You should get some rest." The doctor says. Alex says weakly, "Babe, can you give me my phone?" Vanessa looks for Alex's phone. Once she finds it she hands it to him. Alex is typing out a message to Jose, "I need you here. Now." A half hour later Jose shows up, "Hey man, how are you doing?"

    Vanessa gets up and crosses her arms, "What is he doing here?" Jose ignores her and waits for Alex to respond, "I'm doing alright, I can't get up though." Jose grabs Alex's arm and pulls him up, "Better?" Alex nods at Jose, "Better." Vanessa looks at Alex, "Baby, I'm going to get coffee I'll be right back." She kisses Alex's forehead and they smile at each other. Jose waits for Vanessa to leave, "She thinks it's my fault you're here." Alex chuckles, "She was crying and stressed and cut her some slack man." Jose laughs, "She doesn't like me. She thinks what we're doing is dumb." Alex rolls his eyes, "Trust me. Once she sees that it worked she'll come around." Jose takes a sip of water and looks at Alex, "Do you feel any different?"
    Alex shakes his head, "No I don't. The pain went away though which is probably a good sign." Just then the doctor comes in, "Alexander, your results came back." Jose stands next to Alex's bed, "We found a mutation in your genes." Alex and Jose look at each other, "What kind of mutation?" The doctor pulls out his tablet, "These are your genes before. Blue and red. Your genes. After the blue strand has been replaced with white." Alex and Jose look at each other, "It worked." They chuckle a little before the doctor cuts them off, "We need to run some tests." Jose nods and says, "And we will with our own scientist. We don't need you running experiments on him." Jose calls the scientist, "Yeah. It worked."

    Jose demands the doctor to let Alex leave, "But he has to sign papers." Alex interrupts, "Jose, I'll sign the papers then I'm out of here. Tell Vanessa while I change." Jose nods and he leaves the room. He sees Vanessa, "The doctor is letting him leave after he signs some papers. He's going to be out soon. He's changing." Vanessa nods and looks at Jose, "I'm sorry about earlier." Jose interrupts her, "It's okay don't worry about it. I get it. You were worried." He smiles a little. Vanessa nods and says, "Okay. I'll wait for him." Jose nods, "See you around." Alex gets out of his room and sees Vanessa. They smile at each other and embrace, "How are you my love?" Alex looks at Vanessa's hands and rubs her fingers, "I'm great." They head home after getting something to eat. They get into the house, "Feels good to be home." Alex looks around and starts giggling like a little kid. He goes upstairs to shower. Vanessa laughs, "Don't fall baby! Then I won't be able to record!" Alex laughs as he heads into the bathroom.

    Alex looks into the mirror and says to himself, "You did it. You are Spider-Man." Alex then thinks to himself, "How can I say that when I haven't checked if I have powers or not?" Alex turns the sink on. The sink knob along with the faucet goes flying and water is spraying all over the place. He looks for something to stop the water. He uses his towel to no avail, he then rips off the shower curtain still to no avail. He eventually gets it to stop. But he is soaking wet. He goes downstairs and Vanessa looks at him and laughs, "I think we need a new faucet." Vanessa goes up to Alex still dying from laughter, "How did you break the faucet?" Alex looks at her and smiles, "I ripped it out." Vanessa looks surprised, "So, the bite officially worked?" Alex looks at her with a mischievous grin on his face, "Only one way to find out. Come on!"  Alex yanks her, almost throwing her through the door and into the car, "Where are we going?" Vanessa looks surprised at how much stronger Alex is now, "You'll find out."

    Alex drives up to this warehouse, "Baby? What is this?" Alex looks at Vanessa and laughs, "This isn't a super villain hideout. Me and Jose bought this warehouse to test my powers whenever I got them. I can even practice swing." Vanessa looks at him, "Okay my love. Just please don't hurt yourself." Alex looks down and smiles, "I'll try not to." Vanessa rolls her eyes, "I'm being serious. Don't do anything stupid." Alex puts a hand on his chest, "I won't. At least not yet." Vanessa pushes him, "I love you. Even though you are a child sometimes." Alex smiles and leans towards her, "But that's a part of my charm and you love it."
    He kisses her cheek and gets out of the car. She follows not soon after. Alex looks around and opens the door. The warehouse has chains, some wooden platforms, and looked exactly like the warehouse in the "Amazing Spider-Man" Movie. Vanessa looks around some more and Alex practices balancing on one arm, "Baby, it's getting late we should go." Alex uses his one arm and bounces up from the floor, "We'll be okay." Vanessa still looks uneasy as she grabs her arms for comfort, "Please baby can we go?" Alex looks at her and notices she's very scared, "Okay my love let's go." As soon as they walk outside they hear a voice from behind them, "Now where do you think you're going?" The man is holding a gun as both Vanessa and Alex hear him turn off the safety, "Give me all your belongings or this pretty lady gets her brains blown out." Alex feels vibrations and he gets goosebumps, "Spidey Sense."

    Vanessa is shivering as the man gets really close to her sniffing her hair, "She smells good. Would be a shame if I shot her." Alex has his hands up but his head is down and his eyes are closed. He continues to think about what to do. He finally speaks but his anger is starting to come out so his voice is a lot deeper than normal, "Leave her alone." The man looks at Alex and gets close. Alex feels the man in front of him and opens his eyes to make eye contact, "What are you going to do about it, tough guy?" Alex chuckles. The man drops his smile and gets serious. He points the gun at Alex's head. Vanessa screams. Alex keeps eye contact with the man, "Do it. I dare you." Alex was also scared but he didn't give in to the fear. The man looks at Alex, leveling his eyes, "You serious?" Alex nods his head, "Deadly." The man puts his finger on the trigger. Alex breathes in and out slowly. He then breaks the man's hand with ease. Causing him to drop the gun.

    The man screams in pain and clutches his hands. Alex stays in the dark to cover his face, "You don't get to hurt her." Alex picks up the man and throws him. Vanessa runs to Alex. Alex stands over the man as he tries to crawl away. Alex picks him up again and punches his stomach as blood comes out. Alex is fully corrupted by anger, "Who are you?" The man says weakly as he gets to his knees. Alex picks him up by the shirt and he's about to throw a punch until he hears a voice, "Baby stop! You're going to kill him." Alex, still fueled by anger, says, "Yeah, and he won't do this to anymore people." Vanessa starts pleading to him and gets behind the man, "Baby look at me. This isn't you. Let him go and leave him to the police." Alex looks at the man who is coughing up blood and he lets him go. He grabs his head and pulls it, "You won't do this to anyone else understand?" The man nods and Alex punches him. Knocking the man out.

    They hear sirens approaching and hurry to get to the car. Alex starts feeling his knuckles, "Baby are you okay? Let me drive." Alex puts his hand on the wheel, "I'm okay and no it's okay I'll drive us home." Alex puts the car in drive as the police get closer to what just happened. He drives off to head home. It is a silent drive home. When Alex pulls up to their driveway he notices Jose's car parked outside. Him and Vanessa get out of the car as Jose greets them, "Hey, Vanessa told me what happened. She texted me. Let's train you. Spider-Man."
