Chapter Four

The guys have been over a lot more lately because of a new gig they got hooked up with. Which means that I've seen a lot more of Jasper, which isn't all that great.

He's been really good about staying in the basement during practice, but I suspect that has to do with the fact that Hunter stated that everything but the bathroom and the living room was off limits.

That rule applies to everyone in the band, mostly because those guys can get easily distracted by food and liquor.

I walk down to the basement to check if they need anything, I'm usually the one who brings them snacks and stuff;

since Hunter can be a real hard ass when it comes to practice. I love my brother, but I know he can be hard to deal with sometimes.

They're in the middle of a song so I just sit by the steps and listen to the lyrics Nick is signing.

"Nothing wrong, nothing wrong, nothing wrong with us, baby. I sing this song because of you and me, let me love you, let me show you what is out there."

I close my eyes and listen to his voice, I love it when he sings the songs. Don't get me wrong, Hunter has an amazing voice which is why he's the lead singer of the band, but with Nick, I can hear the passion dripping from the lyrics.

"There's nothing wrong, nothing wrong, nothing wrong, baby... There's nothing wrong, nothing wrong, just let me love you baby."

I clap my hands as soon as the song ends. Everyone turns to look at me while I get up from the stairs and walk towards them.

Hunter rolls his eyes and Nick gives me a grin.

"Are you here to give these losers a break Laila?" I softly punch Hunter on the arm. "I'm just kidding! Sheesh, you're so violent." I raise and eyebrow at him and he raises his hands as a form of surrender, "once again, I'm kidding!"

Nick smirks, "you're sister takes better care of us than you do."

The rest of the band laughs and Liam speaks up, " if it wasn't for her, we'd probably collapse from dehydration or some shitt like that."

I smile and nod my head to agree. "Break time."

Nobody waits to get approval from Hunter, simply because he would say no. Hunter rolls his eyes and he sets his guitar down and heads up the stairs with the guys.

Nick stays behind, but so does Jasper. Nick turns to him, "aren't you going to follow?"

Jasper grins, " as soon as pixie here follows with me."

I roll my eyes and grab Nick's hand to pull him up the stairs before he punches that kid's face.

I hear Jasper chuckle but refuse to acknowledge him. From the top of the stairs I hear Hunter ordering pizza and they guys screaming out toppings. I walk past them all and head into the kitchen to get some water bottles for them all.

Nick comes with me and helps me pull some out of the cabinet, because Hunter would freak if I handed the band cold water. Something about it being bad for the singing process.

"So are you excited for this gig?" He asks me.

I nod my head.

"I wonder why that is?" We turn to see Jasper at the entrance of the kitchen. This boy, I'm going to end up slapping this boy!

"Pizza will be here in 30." Liam steps into the kitchen. "I'll help you with the waters Laila!" I smile at him and hand him the a couple of bottles.

"Is that what we're suppose to be doing?" Asks Jasper. There's a hint of humor in his voice and I resist rolling my eyes again.

"Jasper, I know you're new and all, but we all help out around here. Don't expect Laila to do everything for you just because you're part of the band." Liam says as he hands him water bottles, "now go take them to the rest of the guys." Liam winks at me and hurries into the living room.

I grin at Jasper and now he's the one that rolls his eyes at me. What can I say, they boys love me. Jasper walks out of the kitchen, leaving Nick and I alone. Not that it really matters, we can't really be "us" when the whole band is here. Hell, we can't be anything when Hunter's here.

"I really like the lyrics to the new songs you guys are playing." I start looking for paper plates for when the pizza gets here.

"Yeah?" He asks and I nod, "you always say that."

I smile at him, "that's because they're all really good. We hear Nick's name being shouted from the living room, "that's your cue to get your butt out there."

"My butt much rather stay here," he pouts and I laugh. He can be so cute sometimes, I push him towards the living room. "I'm going, I'm going. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you wanted to get rid of me." He winks at me and walks out of the kitchen.

Sometimes I wonder how it would be if we were actually a couple. We'd be able to hold hands in public, he'd be able to hug me whenever he felt like it and I'd finally be able to tell all those damn groupies to take a hike.

That'd be nice, and my favorite part of the whole "he's mine" thing. I hate seeing girls throw themselves at him, not that I can blame them; the boy's gorgeous, sweet and just all around amazing.

But we can't do any of that, simply because I don't want to ruin things. If Hunter found out, I'm pretty sure he'd kick Nick's ass. Not that Nick couldn't put up a fight, but he wouldn't fight back because it's Hunter.

I'm so distracted by my thoughts that I don't notice someone walking into the kitchen. "You're kind of cute when you're spacing out."

I snap out of my thoughts and scowl at Jasper. "He raises his hands, I was just making an observation pixie."

"Can I help you with something?" I ask.

"Oh, there's plenty you can help me with." He winks at me and I narrow my eyes at him. "Damn pixie, every time I see you, you're scowling. Why is that?"

I raise an eyebrow at him, he can't be that clueless, can he? He grins, "I'm just kidding. I know it's because of me, but really, if you keep scowling you're going to end up with wrinkles on you're face by the time you're 25."

I stare at him, trying to suppress a laugh and miserably failing as I end up laughing pretty loudly. He smiles at me, "you're way cuter when you smile, you know that."

I compose my face and roll my eyes at him. He couldn't just end it with his joke, no he had to go and ruin it by saying something stupid. "Go away Jasper."

He turns to walk away, "I'll go only because I feel accomplished. I'm one step closer to you, pixie." He winks at me and leaves the kitchen.

What the hell? One step closer? To what? I'm so confused, but it doesn't matter. That boys weird anyways, but I got to admit, that it was nice to see a different side to him; even if it was for just a second.

Maybe he's not so bad...
