Chapter Three

I wake up and feel refreshed. The best I’ve felt in days actually, and I automatically think of Nick and why I’m feeling so great this morning. Which in turns makes me blush, and of course when I turn and look at his side of the bed, he’s nowhere to be found. But as always, I find a note with a dandelion next to it.

Hey beautiful,

I’ll have a breakfast done by the time you wake up.

Make sure to come downstairs and eat.

Wish I could wake up next to you,

especially after nights like last night.

-Me

I smile at his note, he always says the same thing, yet it always puts a smile on my face. I get up and stretch my limbs; I’m a bit sore but very relaxed. I grab some pajama shorts and slip them on, and head for the bathroom to brush my teeth. After putting my hair in a pony tail, I head to the kitchen and find Nick and Hunter sitting down at the kitchen table just chatting.

I smile at my brother and he kisses me on the head, “morning lazy butt.”

Nick chuckles at this and I roll my eyes.

“It’s already noon Laila, you slept in till noon. You my little sister, by definition, are a lazy butt.” Hunter grins. I smack him across the head. “Hey! Don’t hit me because you’re lazy.” I raise my hand again and he ducks out of the way, “okay, okay! I’m sorry.” He gets up from the table and laughs, “You know I’m kidding. I’m glad you’re sleeping well.”

He gives me a look of concern, the look you give someone when you want to ask them something but you don’t know how to. I hate when Hunter makes these awkward moments.

“Are you hungry Laila?” Nick asks. I look at him and nod, I love Nick. He always knows when to step in and make things less awkward between people and me. Hunter shakes his head and walks out of the kitchen; I’m a girl of few words. I usually don’t talk much unless I have to, or unless it’s just me and Nick. “You know he only wants to make sure you’re okay, right?”

I look up at Nick, whose putting food on my plate. He shuffling around in the kitchen, I sigh. “I know he is, but I’m tired of being looked at as Hunter’s poor little sister.”

“No one thinks of you like that Laila,” he places my plate in front of me, “now eat.” I nod and start eating the scrambled eggs on my plate.

Hunter walks back into the kitchen, dress in his work uniform. He works at a little café near downtown, so he has to wear his black slacks and a white button down shirt. He looks good, it’s no wonder he’s the best tipped waiter working there.

I smile at him, “work?”

“Yeah, I might have to do overtime tonight so I might not be home by ten.” He turns to Nick, “doode make sure that they guys at least look over the songs okay? I want to make sure that they know what they’re doing by the next rehearsal.”

“Yeah, I got it. They were coming over to pick up the sheets today so I’ll let them know.” He takes a quick glance at me and then back at Hunter. “I’m not trying to kick you out man, but you’re going to be late if you don’t leave soon.”

Hunter looks at the clock, “shitt! I am going to be late! Okay just get them to look over the things and I’ll handle the rest during the next practice.” He come up to me and kisses my head, “see yah kiddo.” And he walks out of our little apartment.
