It was 1:30 a.m. and Callie was crying. She had been sleeping through the night since she was only 7 months old--half of her life ago--but tonight she had already woken up 3 times. Percy hurried into the nursery, trying to put the toddler back to sleep before she could wake up his wife, or...
A second cry pierced the air. Cleo had woken up, too. Already holding Callie in one arm, Percy tried to pick up his younger daughter in the other.
Annabeth rushed in, clearly still a bit groggy, but alert enough, and gently took Cleo from him a moment later. Shortly after that, she frowned and went into the bathroom to rummage through the medicine cabinet for the thermometer. When, a couple minutes later, the thermometer beeped, stating that the 5-month-old's temperature was higher than normal, Annabeth sighed. "Cleo has a fever, Percy."
"I think Callie does, too," he mumbled, coming into the room as well. Sure enough, she had a fever as well, as the thermometer confirmed with a beep. By now, both babies had calmed down a bit, and were no longer shrieking like they had been, but were softly whimpering in discomfort, and Callie was sucking and chewing on some of her fingers. "Great," Percy groaned. "They're both sick."
"Maybe not," Annabeth mumbled, noticing the fingers in Callie's mouth. Gently, she pulled Callie's fingers out of her mouth, and put one of her own in instead. Feeling along Callie's gums, she noticed two small bumps pushing against her top gum, as well as one beneath her bottom gum. "I think she's teething."
"Oh," Percy muttered, then took Callie downstairs to get her a teething ring from the freezer.
While he was gone, Annabeth gently put her finger into Cleo's mouth, testing to see if Cleo's fussiness and fever had the same cause as her sister's.
Sure enough, Cleo had a small bump pushing through her own top gum.
Sighing, Annabeth went to the top of the stairs. "Perce, bring up an extra teething ring for Cleo," she called downstairs.
Percy came back upstairs a minute later, Callie resting her head on his shoulder as she sleepily chewed on the frozen plastic teething ring he had given her.
Cleo visibly relaxed when a second frozen teething ring was placed into her mouth, the cold soothing her sore gums.
Once both girls had been soothed, Percy and Annabeth grinned triumphantly at each other, before stumbling exhausted to their room.
And there they stayed for the rest of the night, the two babies curled together contentedly on the bed between their parents.
Hey guys! I know it's been a bit, but there's been a lot going on for me lately. Some good, some bad... actually a lot bad, to be honest. But it's okay. Things are going alright right now, and hopefully things will stay good.
Anyway, I'm moving to college in less than 2 weeks, so I don't know how busy I will be then, but I will do my best to still update when possible. Of course, you all know how that goes, and if any of you happen to be in the PJO discord server I'm in, you have heard about my struggles with ADHD, so there's that.
Anyway, here's just a cute, short little update. Let me know what you think, and if you have any ideas for chapters or story arcs, let me know. I make no guarantees that I'll use any ideas you give me, but you never know (and more than likely I will, unless it'll mess up future story arcs, or I'm just not inspired by it).
Happy reading!

FanficUpdates may be erratic, but I will try to at least update once every couple weeks. No promises are being made, though. If you notice it's been a while since I've updated, though, you can comment or message me, and hopefully that will get me to work...
