Annabeth's POV:
It was 5 years after we defeated Gaia. 5 years! Sometimes it was still hard to believe it had been so long. Things were good. Things had been going well for the last few years. Percy and I had just returned to New York after graduating from college in New Rome.
We decided to go on a date, and now we were walking along the beach. Percy was making shapes with the water as we walked. He made dolphins of the water, and had them leap out of the ocean, then splash back in. I swear at one point I saw a very confused fish trying to swim through one of the dolphins. I grinned and told Percy "It's amazing... You're amazing."
He grinned back, before leaning in to kiss me. I lean in, too, and our lips meet. As we pull apart, I barely hear him whisper "Not as amazing as you, Wise Girl." The words bring a smile to my face.
He glances down for a moment. "Wise girl, your shoes are untied," he informs me, smirking. It's not unusual. I don't always notice when my shoes come untied, and it annoys Percy, so he ties them for me whenever he notices.
He bends down to tie them, and I look toward the sun, which is just beginning to set. It takes a moment to realize that the shoes I'm wearing don't have laces. I look down, confused, to see Percy, grinning up at me and holding....
Percy's POV:
I was nervous. I knew I wanted to do it tonight. Now. But I couldn't figure out how. I glance down, and suddenly get an idea. I smile and tell her "Wise Girl, your shoes are untied." Then, I bend down like I usually would to re-tie my girlfriend's shoes. I get down onto one knee, this time, though, and pull out a ring. My hands are shaking, slightly, but I manage to still them. At the last moment, I decide to make a heart from the water behind me. It takes concentration, and I'm not even sure if it's actually the right shape, since I can't see it, but it seems like a nice touch, anyway.
Suddenly, Annabeth looks down at me. She seems confused for a second. Then, she sees the ring, and she gasps. I feel my hands start to shake again, but I can't make them stop this time. Tears gather in the corners of her eyes. She still hasn't said anything. Finally, she opens her mouth, but still no words come out of her mouth.
Eventually, she says a single word. It comes out more like a happy sob, but I can still make it out.
Annabeth's POV:
A ring! He's holding a ring. I also notice a heart made of water behind him. I'm so shocked that for a minute, I can't even say the single word I want so badly to say. I hear a gasp, and it takes me a minute to realize that I was the one who made it. I open my mouth, but still can't make the word come out. Percy's hands are shaking when I finally force the word out.
"Yes!" It comes out more like a sob. I take in a breath, and say it again. "Yes, Seaweed Brain! Of course!" He leaps up, and suddenly I'm wrapped in his arms, and we're both laughing. It's the happiest I've been, in my entire life. I have no idea how any moment could ever be better than this moment right now.
Hey guys.... I know this is a super cliche way to start one of these stories, but I don't care. I think it's actually a super cute way to start a story like this, which, of course, is probably the reason it is such a cliche. Anyway, I hope you liked it. Comment on your favorite part (please, I love getting comments on my stories), or feel free to give me any constructive criticism.
Hope you like it!
