Chapter 16: A day of truths

Matapalo Beach. Jess Organization. Some time after Sean's unconsciousness.

Several hours had passed since the doctor had last checked on Sean, but now it was time. He was waking up again. Finn was the first to look into his boyfriend's eyes. And what he saw there were clearly the eyes of his beloved Sean.

"You're all right!" he laughed, immensely happy.

Isaac, Daniel, Maila and even Layla were happy that he was doing well again.

"I had a really weird dream," he said, still a little disoriented.

Daniel and Isaac looked at each other worriedly, whereas Finn just hugged him and didn't want to let go again. After a few minutes, he seemed to get better and was even able to stand up. All of a sudden, Jess came into the hospital room.

"Hello, everyone. Merry Christmas," she said kindly.

"Merry Christmas," they replied.

"How nice that you are doing well again, Sean," she greeted him. The others were surprised to see her here now. It had been a while since they had last seen each other. Sean just smiled, how could he react any other way. "A lot has definitely changed since the last time you were here."

"That's true," Daniel replied. "There are somehow a lot less people here, though I had seen some in the halls in the back"

"Yes, that's true. We did complete our mission, after all. Adam is now no longer among us living. Since, we were able to fire some of the staff and give the dedicated fighters and combatants their freedom back. Now we are just an infirmary for emergencies and for therapy of mental disorders," she explained.

"I guess you are still supported by the state then, aren't you?" asked Isaac curiously.

"That's right. Our funding comes from the very top, or as it is here also from the taxes of the citizens. But you know we don't impose any costs on you here."

"That's really thoughtful," Maila replied.

"I agree, keeping us alive is really difficult as the only working person," Isaac added.

"I guess it's about time we got some work too, isn't it Daniel?" she turned to Daniel. He looked glumly at her. Suddenly he was supposed to be working? After all, he had never done that before. The only thing that came close to work was what he had done here in the organization.

"We could always use some new helpers here with us," Jess opened up.

"That would be perfect," Maila rejoiced.

"Eh-yeah," was the only thing Daniel said in response.

"You'd best drop in on me again after the Christmas holidays, and we'll discuss it all then."   With that, she turned back to Sean. "Get well soon," and was on her way out of the room.

"Thanks," he responded, almost too late. "Oh Jess, I have a question."

Astonished, she stopped, "What would you like to know?"

"Is that boy, Puma is his name, still here on the ward?" he wanted to know.

"Yes- why? Do you want to see him?" she asked.

Finn separated himself from Sean and looked at him with a smile.

"I want to tell him I forgive him.", Sean said.

Finn's face contorted a little. What the fuck had he just heard? Sean was going to forgive the guy he had to thank for almost getting him killed? Was he serious? "Are you serious?" asked Finn, confused.
