I'm sorry?

I didn't know what to reply with, not expecting the man to talk with me as if I wasn't a complete stranger. It's sort of off-putting.

I actually was hoping you could help me out

I'm having an editing issue and all of my footage was deleted

Is there anything I could do to get it back?

My eyes widen a little, realizing that instead of Dream trying to talk with me, he actually needed guidance.

I'm gonna assume he thinks I'm some kind of great editor that knows the tricks of the trade, like an all-knowing entity. Luckily, I am an all-knowing editor with tricks up my sleeve.

So, the next thirty minutes of my life are spent explaining simpled-down instructions to Dream, feeling completely in my zone when it came to this type of process.

Of course it takes longer than it should, because the man has no idea what to do in this situation, but I'm feeling prideful just sharing the info.

I was in my element, and texting about it is easier than having a normal conversation.

Alright you should be all set

Thanks again

I got worried for a sec

Np just ask if you need help again

With an accomplished feeling, I set the phone down, a smile on my face when I realize I'd just gotten through an entire conversation with a stranger rather calmly.

Wait... I just did that? Oh my God I did that!

There's a small celebratory dance from me that's stopped when the wall starts to echo with a harsh bang.

"Stop prancing around! You're shaking my damn computer!"

b/n's voice was muffled a little through the wall, but I understood him, ceasing my actions not because he asked, but because I needed to get back on my phone and talk with f/n.

They need an update about how I landed safely and got home without any trouble, that way they don't spam me tomorrow.

I decide to call instead of text, since typing it all out would just be a bother. And with that, the phone was up to my ear.

"—Did you land okay? No one made you feel awkward right? How was getting back to your parents place?"

I laugh when their voice sets off immediately, knowing why I'd called before I even offered explanation.

"Yup, all is good. I kept myself distracted on the plane, and b/n came to pick me up," The story is brief, but I know it's all they need to hear.

That thought is confirmed when I hear a relieved sigh. "Good. Anything else you wanna tell me? Nothing much is going on here except for some storms."

I nod even though they can't see it, and decide to tell them about my most recent accomplishment.

"I was able to hold a messaging conversation with a stranger and it didn't get awkward!"

"That's good! Who was it though? I can't see you reaching out to a stranger so you can— no... Oh my God you did it!"

"Huh?" I'm lost for a second, not really picking up on what my distant friend is celebrating.

"You talked with Dream! Did you get the job?! I thought you said it was a total fail though?!"

Their recollection is correct, and still stands true to this day, but it's shocking how they picked up on who it was so quickly.

"Well no, I didn't get the job. But he did need some help, and maybe that put a good word in for me. At least enough to make him rethink the decision."

I hear their small hum from the other line and wait patiently to hear a reply. "Okay then, I'll leave you to it. I know being on a phone with me isn't any fun when all of Orlando is right in front of you. I'll see ya later!"

Their cheery tone makes me smile, and I hang up after saying bye, laying down on my bed with a relaxed sigh.

"I'm making progress..."

"y/n, do you wanna go meet the neighbors? They have a kid around your age!"

Nevermind.

"Oh! Uhm— no thanks! I only like... older... people?"

They don't say anything else from downstairs, and all I can hear is my brothers laughter from next door.

"Shut your trap b/n! I know you're out for your friends moms!" His laughing ceases and I smirk triumphantly, closing my eyes.

This is gonna be a great trip.

It's a shorter chapter but I like it nonetheless. We're getting to the 'becoming editor' part I'm just going slow— as usual. Don't mind me.

Also f/n goes by he/they/and she just to allow everyone to imagine the type of friend they want. Make it Harry Styles for all I care, just have some fun with it.
