The Blackbird Song
A telephone rings in a treetop,
How can this ever be true?
Its tone is being trilled by a blackbird,
Broo broo, broo broo, broo broo broo.
The aria is heard by another,
A bird who's as clever as he,
Who passes the song to some others,
Perched in a neighbouring tree.
Soon all of the forest is singing,
In phone bells of various tones.
And all because one clever blackbird,
Learned how to answer the phone.
When blackbirds and song thrushes pick up on phones, car alarms, ambulances and other noises, it enlarges their musical repertoire and may help to attract mates.
