Chapter 3

I woke up to the sound of crashing coming from the kitchen. As someone who has watched plenty of horror and action movies, I jump out to make the smart decision of investigating. The reason why it is smart is because in horror movies they are too stupid to bring a weapon, and I'm not. So with that being said, I quickly grab my pocket knife that I keep by my nightstand(in case of emergencies obviously). I walk out of my room and decide that halfway down the stairs that this is a terrible idea and immediately try to walk back up. I run into my mom coming down the stairs as I'm going back up.

"Rumi, were you the one making all that noise?"

I reply, "No, do you want to check with me what is making the noise..?"

My mother sighs and then gives me a questioning look that you can tell is lined with disappointment. "Fine but I don't see why you would be coming up the stairs when the noise is clearly downstairs."

I try not to let my cowardness towards the situation slip and say, "Oh yeah, I was heading down but thought it would be a good idea to check on your first and you know...make sure you were alright."

Not the best lie I could come up with but talking to your mom always makes something slip. She looks at me with a nod like she wants us to be quiet and listen while we go down. I comply as it is the most logical thing to do, something that characters in movies fail tremendously at. We end up walking slowly downstairs together and looking out onto the kitchen. Expecting to find something similar to a thief or I don't know a raccoon, we end up seeing Ace trying to make breakfast.

"Oh my GOD you are such a little weasel!"

He replies in a whiney manner, "What? What did I even do!?"

I look at him like he's crazy to ask such a question and look at my mom. She looks at me with a blank expression so it is really difficult to read what she is thinking.

I whine back, "You almost gave us a f**king heart attack! That's what you did! Also how in the name of everything you believe in can you make this much ruckus making a bowl of cereal."

I can already feel my mom about to shout my way "language!" and how my brother is "too young to be around that". I don't get how that's true when he and his friends say things like that all of the time. As it is still morning and I'm not in the mood to get told off, I decide to just walk back upstairs and pray I can actually fall back asleep.

The answer is no, I can not fall back asleep. Basically I have been tossing and turning for what I believe is 20 mins but feels like 3 hours. I guess I better warn Ace that if I threaten to tear his head off then it's his fault for waking me up at like 6 am. Knowing that I'm not going to fall back asleep at this point I get up and start to get ready for the day. Opening curtains, brushing my teeth, all the basic morning stuff. Since I'm still absolutely pissed at my brother I refrain from going downstairs to him and take a nice shortcut through my window. Keep in mind I live on the second floor of a pretty big house and just now realized after I landed that there were bushes under my window drop. Brushing it off, I can still walk which means running also shouldn't be an issue and I start running to my backyard fence again to jump the fence once more. Sadly before I make it over the fence Ace sees me and stops what I'm trying to do to stay away from him.

"Hey why are you going out again! You promised last week that you would do something that I want this Sunday so that I don't tell mom about you sneaking out with Jessica that one time!"

Sh*t I totally forgot about that. Ughhhh now I have to deal with this little gremlin.

"Jeez fine, what do you want me to do?"

He looks back at me thinking. Really though what kind of idiot doesn't come up with this type of thing beforehand like he had a full week. He looks back at the fence, then back at me, then to the forest behind me, and makes his choice.

"I want you to take me through the forest with you."

I look towards him in shock. Why would he want to go with me? He hates the outdoors and spending any time with me.

I calm my face of most expressions and say, "Um ok I guess but why?"

He passes by me going towards the fence and boldly states, "To annoy you of course."

Jeez, this little brat really would waste a WHOLE day of me doing absolutely anything to annoy me. I've gotta say that I don't know if that is stupid or well-played.

I follow him and sigh. "Alright let's go."

Author's Note: I'm so sorry about how short the chapters have been, I like to leave things on little hooking cliffhangers because it is fun but it normally cuts things short. I'm also sorry about how long it took to have this come out, I started school a few days ago so I don't have a whole lot of time but thanks to school I have started wanting to write again so hopefully things will start progressively coming out. I hope you have enjoyed the story so far and please keep in mind my last chapter/the editing note chapter. On that note I hope you all have a wonderful day/night.
