Max stood on the patio of Kao's house which was built in the face of the cliff. It was an enclosed Patio, covered in floor to ceiling glass overlooking the deep ravine.
Max had not really wanted to go with Kao. But now that he was here at Kao's luxurious villa, he felt a little better. He had been feeling down and depressed. And the only thing he wanted to do was go to Tul and scold him for getting so stressed out all the time and running away. And then say sorry and drag him home.
He was looking at the view and thinking about Tul and wondering what exactly had gone so horribly wrong between them in the span of 24 hours.
Max sighed, feeling mournful. He missed Tul and as much as he wanted to run immediately to Tul he knew currently he had no strength to fight Tul's sometimes absolutely absurd and ridiculous thinking which he clung to so stubbornly. He recalled the bamboo plant incident and shook his head and chuckled.
As he looked at the deep ravine from the floor to ceiling glass he suddenly remembered Tay and the way he had been flirting with Tul. His brows furrowed together in slight irritation as he recalled the lunch scene of the previous day.
He felt like kicking himself for being stupid enough to leave Tul alone with another man. He didn't doubt Tul but he didn't trust the other man.
If only he had been thinking straight. But since night he had felt restless. And come morning the sight of his beautiful garden had left him devastated. He had not wanted to show any weakness in front of Tul and worry him. But deep down it had hurt. Just the thought of his rose bushes made his eyes prick.
But he dashed the thought away. Why the hell had he been distracted by the worry for some plants, which he could grow again, instead of paying attention to Tul.
Max suddenly felt drained and exhausted. He turned from the window and looked at the rest of room. The place looked like a small paradise. The other 3 walls of the glass fronted room were carved out of stone. The walls were lined with some lush green potted plants which made the place look like some fairytale forest. On one side there was a small fountain and the noise of the trickling water was soothing.
The huge curved basket type swing which was big enough to comfortably fit a couple, looked very inviting suddenly. Max sat down and tucked his legs under him and leaned against the soft, downy pillows.
Kao had purchased the place a couple of years back, saying he wanted a place of his own in the town where he had some of his best memories.
And Max had to agree. As kids he, Kao, New and a few of his other cousins and friends had loved harassing and playing pranks on Great, Foei and some of the older cousins. It used to be a riot during vacations.
And Kao was always the one to stand by him and try and save him from getting a thrashing from Great.
The covered patio was being cooled by an AC. And the cool air combined with the warm rays of the late morning sun filtering through the clear glass, and the gentle motion of the swing lulled him to sleep. His body and brain both needed rest.
When Kao came to find him, he was mesmerized by the picture Max made curled up amongst the plush white pillows of the swing. Kao threw a light blanket over him and pulled up a chair to sit and watch over the man who made his heart sing.
A few months before when Max had posted the picture of his new house, the little flame of longing that had been flickering in his heart for so many years had got a new boost. Kao had hoped that Max shifting to his very own house would be a sign that Max was now ready to settle down and he would finally have the chance he had been waiting for.
