NIMAH AHMED
My shift had just ended when a pregnant woman was rushed in, she was in extreme pain due to her contractions with no gynaecologist obstetrician in the hospital which left only Keira. I thought for a minute but all the doctors were either occupied or not present which left me to call Keira in urgency.
"Get the OP ready till the doctor arrives," I told the nurses present as I arranged Keira's surgical equipment after which I was preparing to check the baby once it would be born.
A few hours later I slumped on the chair in Keira's cabin just after she finished filling in the new parents with the details of their healthy baby boy with crimson cheeks and small fists which were wrapped tightly around my finger when I was running a few tests on him.
"I'm sorry for calling at this time, Keira I wouldn't have asked if there were other doctors present," I said apologetically when she entered the cabin.
"Oh hush it's my job, but where were the doctors who were supposed to be present there, how did they leave the emergency room unattended." She angrily opened the tetra pack of orange juice and gulped down still standing.
"How many times do I have to tell you to sit down while eating or drinking." I walked up to her and pushed her to her table.
"Sorry, grandma." She huffed but smiled a little when she saw me giving her a stink eye, she knows how much I despise being called grandma.
"Yeah go on a laugh, you'll thank me when I would be the reason for your healthy heart." I huffed and moved away from her when she pulled me back and made me stand beside her.
"Heyyy I was just teasing." She chuckled pushing me slightly with her butt but me being dramatic I rolled and rolled until I slammed myself onto the door with a dramatic sigh.
"Idiot," Keira chuckled shaking her head at my antics.
"Bring me the list of doctors who were scheduled for night shift in the emergency wing right now." She spoke to the receptionist through the phone authoritatively.
We were just talking and laughing about something when the door opened with a bang startling me but Keira stood firm, eyes alert and hands fisted.
"What happened?" She asked seeing the receptionist huffing and puffing.
"They. . .your husband. . Men with guns. . ," She spoke between breaths but that was enough as Keira slammed the half-finished tetra pack she was drinking onto the table and marched out.
I knew it was going to be bad when she abandoned her prized possession her daily dose of citrus juice unclaimed.
I ambled through the hallway following closely behind the trembling receptionist.
"What is going on?" Keira's authoritative voice rang out and the huge crowd which had gathered around dispersed like the red sea and in emerged Rafe Malachi Yaden along with Kabir Malik with their heavily armed "bodyguards" behind them.
