"Open your mouth wide for me darling." I flashed the light to see clearly the issue making her uncomfortable.
"Did you drink sodas again, Nayla?" I asked raising my brows in suspicion as she gave me a sheepish smile staring at her father.
I glanced at Mr Malik only to see him staring right back at me, a finger on the corner of his mouth, eyes shielded slightly by his lustrous hair.
My heart for some unknown reason pounded rapidly making me turn away before my face could reveal the matters of my heart.
"I'll prescribe her some medicines and a nasal spray, you can get this in the pharmacy below this level," I told to him as he nodded at me.
"You need to take care of yourself Nayla, you can eat sweets and drink all you want but within a limit, okay?" I told the little girl softly.
A vibration from my phone made me shift my attention from Nayla as I flipped my phone to see my mom calling me. I silenced the call as I would call her back once I am unoccupied.
But it kept ringing and dread filled me as I thought of the possibilities of her calling me so late at night.
"I apologise but I have to take this call, give me a moment," I asked apologetically but Mr Malik just nodded his head assuring me.
"Hello As- Salamu Alaykum mom," I greeted as soon as I picked up.
"Wa alaykumu s- Salam beta, where are you now?" My mom's tired voice came in, it was an early morning where she lived I wondered why she's up so early.
"I'm at the hospital." I knew her next words before she could say them and scrunched my face as I waited for her to scold me.
"This time of the night! I told you before not to work at nights na, this girl doesn't listen to me at all." I could hear her angry grumping as she scolded me.
"I just lost track of time maa, I have a patient to attend at the moment and then I'll be back at home, did you have something to talk about," I asked worry lacing my tone.
"Yeah, why haven't you been talking to your fiance you know his mother called me saying that my daughter doesn't even ask for their well being. I stalled them by saying you were busy with some work but they seemed pretty disappointed with it, call him as soon as you are free to okay beta, don't let misunderstandings get in between you two." I wanted to pour my heart out and tell her how her would-be son-in-law was treating me and the constant taunting I get from his mother but it would only stress my naive mother further and that's something I couldn't afford it.
"We are not yet married, mom neither am I free to answer his calls every time of the day I'll try my best to not let it happen again, I'll call you later when I reach home. Take care." I held my temple as I head her say greeting before declining the call.
"Is everything alright?" I jumped a little at the voice causing my back to hit Mr Malik's front.
I apologise, Very muscular front.
I shut my eyes to block out the vicious portrayals conjuring in my love deprived brain, Even if my heart desired him his touch still made me feel uncomfortable. I could feel the heavyweight of his charcoal eyes as I awkwardly tried to make the distance between us.
"I'm sorry." He spoke gently as he straitened his coat.
"It's alright." I stumbled on my words standing this close to him evoke feelings I know I shouldn't be feeling, a soothing smell of musk came from him a manly sent driving me crazy the more I stay here.
