Chapter 10
~ Things are complicated~Anna was terrified as she sauntered through the halls of her highschool.
The day before was treacherous enough, having to adjust to her new environment whilst worrying why on earth her father hadn't been trying to contact her had taken a toll, hence distracting her from important stuff she ought to focus on that day,— school stuff.
School didn't even come to mind when she considered herself to be recovering from being jumped in the middle of the street.
But today's experience was like a cherry on top the ice cream that was her entire week. Maybe the best and worst week of her life.
Maybe not the worst week, it was safe to say she had had worse weeks.
The only thing that wasn't so bad about the whole situation, the only thing that was actually worth going through all this trouble was meeting Elias, and her insufferable crush on him grew by the minute.
It didn't help that he had this charming aura that just drew her to him. She felt safe when she was with him or around the people he trusted and it was weird she felt that way. Trusting an infamous stranger so blindly, someone who you knew of behind the scenes but never really knew.
It was weird, she was weird so she thought nothing of it.
It was only a crush, a mere infatuation that had begun because he was beautiful and kind and selfless and everything she hadn't seen in a person for a long time.
But it would ware off in due time, she promised she wouldn't raise her hopes just for them to be deteriorated when she realized her attraction was unrequited.
Her best friend, at least someone who had once been her best friend had approached her the day before in the halls. Like the rest of the school Drew was only curious what on earth she was doing hanging around with Eli and his friends. Anna had shut out anyone and everyone that had something to do with her after her mom passed away. Not like she had much of a choice, they made no effort to try and reconnect after displayed zero interest for people who had once been close to her.
They made no effort to understand her grief, it was a backhanded friendship and she herself had no intention on wasting her energy with people who didn't care about her.
They cared to an extent, but not enough. Never enough.
Atleast that was what she thought.
Drew and Anna had been inseparable for most of their lives. Their parents were once friends and so, their inevitable friendship began at a very young age. They attended the same school and became a source of one anothers happiness, so it took a toll on her when their friendship abruptly came to and end.
For a reason in which she knew nothing of.
Which is exactly why she was surprised to see Drew early that Monday morning. He looked as good as she remembered, except now he had a different haircut. Anna had a mix of emotions as she gazed at him, it wasn't like this was the first time she had seen him in a long time but it just felt different.
How they had gone from falling asleep in each others arms to passing each other in the halls without showing any signs of acknowledgment baffled her.
That awkward tension was exactly why this conversation would be hard to entertain.
"Anna, Hey" his voice was unsure and his hands were clammy resting deep in his pockets.
In all truthfulness he missed his once best friend and looking at her now brought a nostalgic feeling to him, one he was unable to brush away.
