Chapter 13
~ Let her go ~There were numerous things running through her head as she walked through the doors of school the next week.
The day was expected to be normal, that was until she saw Drew, his face hardly recognizable. He looked like he had been jumped by a gang of men and repeatedly beaten and Anna couldn't help but admit she felt her heart tug with sadness for her old friend.
He looked like he was in serious pain but only forced himself to be on the school premises; no doubt because it was senior year and flunking wasn't an option for him.
Drew had one black eye and a broken arm, a frown set on his face as he quietly ate his lunch in the presence of people she recognized as his friends, while they sat and chatted away at the table Drew only kept his head down slowly maundering and munching on his fries.
Anna sat across from Jules, Eli sat stark beside her watching as her facial expression morphed into horror at the sight of Drew's battered appearance.
Eli had originally thought that she would not care but that was in fact, not true. It was stupid to think she wouldn't care. Of course, she cared, it didn't matter if Drew had fucked her over in the past, their friendship still held a significant place in her heart, one she would never forget.
Drew and Anna had been together through the thick and the thin so no matter what he did that could be labeled as unforgivable, she would still never stop caring about him as he did her.
The thought sent Eli's brain into a vengeful state, all of a sudden he wished he could go back to that night in the parking lot and hit Drew even harder, maybe even so hard that he would reconsider ever stepping grounds into their school again.
But he hadn't and so whatever emotion Anna had left for Drew, he set out to destroy.
He placed an arm on her shoulder causing her train of thought to deviate as she turned to him with a startled expression. He had a concerned smile on his face as he looked towards her.
"What you looking at?"
Annas face turned away from Andrews as she now looked at Eli's expectant ones.
"Oh, just my friend"
She internally cringed at herself. Drew wasn't her friend, at least not anymore, so why did she refer to him like that when she was talking Eli?. She felt like the situation was way too complicated to explain right of the bat.
Eli clenched his jaw, realizing that she wasn't looking to push the subject further he looked to Andrew and turned to her again.
"What happened to him, he a member of the MMA or somethin'?"
He tried to keep the hostility out of his voice as a thick coat of sarcasm came out with it.
Anna nervously shook her head. It was unlike Drew to get in fights so why he suddenly looked like a boxer fresh out of a performance box was beyond her comprehension.
She gave him an awkward laugh. "I- I have no idea, to be honest, I'm pretty worried about him. He looks badly hurt, if we were still close I would ask him"
Anna fumbled with her fingers and continued. "I'm scared he's in trouble, what if he got into a fight". She turned again and looked to Andrew, his gaze was still down as he avoided all conversation, he looked really out of it.
Eli scoffed and scolded himself, it seemed beating the shit out of Andrew Miller was doing more good than harm to their friendship and he didn't like that one bit.
