"Go lower Kira. The lower you go the more you'll build your muscle. Now up! Up!" she yells as I come up from my one-legged squat. Meghan Wong, my 26-year-old physical therapy trainer was really pushing me today because I missed our last session. Although I was grateful for her helping me build up my leg muscle again since my surgery, she never gives me a break.

I slump down the floor, sipping my water. "I guess I won't be missing another session again."

"Damn right. You're almost done with our sessions, so I want to make sure you're ready."

"I'm not playing hockey again Meg."

"But whyyy nottt. Your mom said you were really good." She pouts.

"Because that part of my life is over. I've made peace with it." In reality I haven't made peace with shit. I miss the ice so much. Sure, I can go play on a rec league with some girls but it's not the same if I can't be my best anymore. What's the point?

"I don't believe that for a second, but I want to know how your day was?" Meghan asks changing the subject.

I sigh, "it's fine. Nobody from Mountainview has talked to me. Pretty sure they forgot I exist."

Meghan scoffs. "They are all idiots, some team members they were. More like assholes to me."

I let out a small laugh. "Yea, I guess. I don't know it feels weird to walk the halls. All the red and black team spirit everywhere. I always feel like I'm on enemy territory. It's unnerving."

"That's because you are on enemy territory Ki. But maybe it doesn't have to be anymore."

"What? I can't betray my school. I am loyal, Meghan." I say crossing my arms.

"Oh, please. Don't give me that. Those people didn't give a shit about you. This isn't about loyalty anymore Kira. You're moving onto bigger and better things. You're protecting a school that doesn't want you babe. They don't deserve you. Look I'm not saying that Killarney deserves it either. That's for you to decide."

"Damn, Meghan. Maybe you should have become a therapist instead."

She smiles and shrugs. "I have many talents."

After a moment I groan. "How am I supposed to "accept" Killarney anyways? I haven't even made any friends yet."

Meghan gets up and goes to her office and comes back with a flyer and hands it to me.

I read it over and raise my eyebrows.

"One: Who even puts party invites on flyers anymore? Two: Why are you invited to a high school party? And three: I am not going to a Halloween party."

"Ew, one: I am not going to a high school party. Some girl left it here after her session. And two: yes, you are definitely going. I am making you."

I look back at the flyer contemplating. "MEGHAN! This party is tonight! And besides I don't even have a costume."

"Oh, is it? Whatever, you parents won't care and leave the costume to me." She smirks.

That is how I end up standing in front of Jason Rai's house.

After the session Meghan and I went to her apartment to get ready. She raided her own closet and came out with a short tight black dress, ripped stockings and long black gloves.

I look at her unimpressed. "And what the fuck am I supposed to be?"

She glares at me and tells me to sit down. "It's all in the makeup."
