"No cursing, no lying, no stealing, no fighting, no insults until I give you permission to do so and I gave you the new phone for that reason to call if you're in trouble. I'm not the boss at my job so call your dad or aunt anytime but you'll get me during lunch hours. Back to the list; don't let anyone in your hair, don't get your clothes too dirty or you're washing it with your hands. You can share but think or check before you do. For example you have two pencil, don't share it because you might lose one and needs the other, share when you have three or more. Everyone should have their lunches or break, you need to eat so you'll be strong and healthy for the rest of the day. Ask the teacher for permission to use the bathroom or raise your hand to speak. Don't speak out of turn, don't play staring games with your teacher or some students who are not your friends and keep our personal life to yourself. The most they should know is that you're from the Caribbean. Remember to use your English as best as you can and save the creole for after school. I spend a lot of money on getting theses Caribbean snacks, foods and beverages so don't waste it, give it away or we'll have problems. You know how some of these foods here are weird. If you're nervous, play with your bracelet or necklace..."
"Mummy, I'll be fine." Luna giggles and Xani nods.
"I know, and no boys. You can be friends with them but no kissing or inappropriate touching."
"I know." Luna answered.
"Remember that boy we see back in Jamaica who peed in the bushes then uses the same hand to eat his cheese snacks. Yes, hands and mouth has lots of germs from mostly boys. Women had nothing to touch when we pee except for our underwear and clothes."
"Ew... Yep. I remember." The memory came to Luna's eyes the same time.
"Back to our conversation. No copying or lending of homework books. Let no one bully you or I'll beat you, I'm serious Luna. If someone slaps you, slaps them back and do it harder than they did. Don't be afraid to finish your workbook if you're bored but don't tell anyone I said that. The day care and library is on the other end of the school so you can stay there till we pick you up. Don't go home with anyone but us, don't try to leave the school premises or hide from class. Don't sit in the far back of your class, learn how this foolishness of their family's wealth is affected in their sitting arrangements and please make your father and I proud. Don't use all the money on your first day, remember tomorrow as well as your piggy bank. I don't know why your father chose to give you fifty dollars. Tell me about you day when I come to pick you from aunty Amber, okay?"
"Yes mummy." Luna unbuckled her seatbelt and open the door with her bag on her back and lunch box in her hand. "Love you."
"I love you more." Xani could feel the tears in her eyes but also see it in her daughter's before she snap a quick pictures to sent to the family before driving away from the drop off area.
Someone behind her car was impatiently blowing their horn but instead of showing the person her middle finger, her pinky was what she showed, thanks to the school premises. "Get a move on it already!"
"You won't have to wait when you get back to hell!" She shouts before driving away with a grin her face.
She got to her job early and went inside after putting on her uniform for the 'Pastry King Catering service' printed on a purple t-shirt. Her black skirt, stockings and heels were something she didn't like but she went with it.
She moved to clock in when someone cleared their throat behind and standing there was a red head guy who she got to knows was her boss on the third day there. "Good morning, Mister Akman."
"Good morning, Miss Lorenzo. I never thought I would see you in hell after I waited four minutes during drop off."
Xani's eyes widened and she smiles. "I apologize for delaying your wait sir, it's my first child's drop off and I'm new to it. I won't let you wait that long again." Putting her slip back in the shelf on the wall, she looks back at him with a small smile. "Can I be excused to get to work?"
