Percy Pov:
"Hey, Percy. Come with me." Annabeth said. Percy had only been there a week and was starting to feel more comfortable around here. He followed Annabeth into the barn.
"What are we doing?"
"Remember when you first got here and I healed you?"
"Yeah."
"Well, now it's your turn to help someone. We got this one in late last night. She passed out and you need to help her."
In front of him lay a girl probably around his age with dark, bronze skin and blond hair that lay around her face in many long braids that reminded him of Medusa, but if all the snakes were white, and dead. She had a small face, dusted with freckles and a light blush over her small nose. She had full lips and wide eyes, even though they were closed. Her features were soft but had a long neck and sharp jawline.
"What happened?"
"She was being chased here by a kindly one and broke her ankle. She passed out and the Satyress Maria dragged her here." Annabeth grabbed a basket of medical supplies and handed it to Percy. "Take care of her ankle and I'll give her Ambrosia." He nodded and took the basket. He propped her leg on his knee before cleaning it and bandaging it up.
He was about to put an ice pack on it when her leg was yanked out of his lap. He looked up at her and saw she had woken up. She shot out of bed and was staring at him with bright green eyes full of fear.
"What happened? Where am I?" Annabeth put her hand on the girl's shoulder to comfort her.
"You are safe. You're at a place for people like you where you will be protected." The girl just looked more confused.
"People like me?"
"Demigods." The girl stared at her for a long time, completely silent. "What's your name?"
"Katarina. But everyone calls me Jade."
"Ok, Jade. It's nice to meet you." Annabeth smiled kindly. "I'm Annabeth. This is Percy." She gestured towards him.
"Did you say demigods?"
"Yes. This is camp half blood. Kids who are half god and half human go here."
"You're saying that all of this is real. And not only that, but I am a demigod myself." Annabeth nodded. "Right, then who's my god parent?"
"We don't know. A lot of people never know. I am a daughter of Athena and Percy is a son of Poseidon." Percy could practically see the gears in Jade's head turning, trying to make sense of everything.
"Where Maria."
"I don't know but we can find her." Jade nodded and both Annabeth and Percy got up to leave. They were almost at the door when Jade spoke again in a small voice.
"Thank you. For helping me." Annabeth gave her another smile before disappearing out the room, followed by Percy.
"Well, I'd say that went well." Annabeth said.
"Yeah, she took everything like crazy good." She rolled her eyes and continued down the steps.
"Hey! Grover!" Grover trotted over.
"Hi guys. Did you hear, we got a new girl last night."
"Yeah, we were just with her." Grover furrowed his eyebrows.
"No, I was just with her." Annabeth and Percy looked at each other. "Here, let me show you." He led them to the edge of the camp where a girl satyr was sitting on a log. "Meet Maria."
"Oooooh." Percy said. "We were with the new demigod. Jade." Maria perked up at the mention of her friend.
"Jade? Is she ok?"
"Yeah, we were actually going to come find you. She wants to talk to you." Maria jumped up and ran towards the barn.
"So, how come she's new?" Percy asked.
"Well, she's not from here. I'm really not sure where she's from, but apparently she was sent to help Jade, so she brought her here." Annabeth nodded.
"Ok."
"Yeah, she's been dreading telling Jade about her heritage because she knows it will be hard and she wants to be there for her but she can't, sense she has to go back to wherever she's from."
They looked towards the barn and saw Jade and Maria emerge from the door. Jade was limping but made her way down the stairs. They saw Percy and the others and walked over to them.
"Hey guys." Jade said.
"Hi. Are you ok?" Annabeth asked.
"Yeah, Maria explained it all to me."
"And you believe her?" Percy asked, stunned. Jade shot him a glare and he shut up.
"Honestly, it's all a little weird to say the least, but I did see my boyfriend turn into a monster and try to kill me." She shrugged like that happened often.
"Your boyfriend was a kindly one?" Annabeth asked. She nodded and Annabeth gave a sympathetic look.
"You have good taste." Percy said.
"Yeah, I sure know how to pick 'em." She smiled and laughed a little. Her smile was kind and big, it showed off almost all her white teeth. Her laugh was deep and low, it was the kind of laugh that made you want to laugh too.
"Come with me." Annabeth gestured towards the cabins. "I'll show you to your cabin." They walked towards the bunch of cabins together. "Every god and goddess has a cabin for their children."
"I thought you said you didn't know who my god parent is."
"Yeah, but you still need a place to sleep, and the Hermes cabin takes everyone until they are claimed."
"Is everyone claimed?"
"No, but don't worry, most are." This didn't seem to comfort Jade. The group walked over to the cluster of cabins. They walked up to the largest and most worn down cabin. It was an off white, brownish color that was chipping off and had a caduceus above the door. Annabeth lightly shoved Jade into the door and when Jade looked in, she looked scared.
The inside was even messier than the outside and had tons of kids running around. Percy could tell that maybe Jade was not big on a lot of people. He felt bad for her. He remembered his first night here when he had stayed there. He shuddered just to imagine it.
"Hey, if you want, I know it's crowded, you can stay with me." Percy said. Everyone looked at him confused. "What? It's not like we're low on space." Jade smiled at him thankfully and Annabeth shrugged.
"Can you do that?" Grover asked.
"Why not?"
"Ok, I guess that's fine." Annabeth shrugged and they walked over to a low, greyish bluish cabin that looked pretty empty. "Here we are." Jade stepped inside and looked back at Percy.
"Where is everyone?"
"You're looking at them. I live alone here." She furrowed her brow.
"Why?"
"The big three gods: Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades have this kind of agreement that means they can't have kids because their kids are, like, really powerful and end up causing most wars. So their cabins were empty until me." She nodded. "You can take any of the beds until you get claimed."
"What about my parents?"
"We told you, we don't know." Annabeth said, a little annoyed.
"No, I mean I was adopted and when I ran away I didn't tell them. They must be worried sick."
"You can write them a letter." She nodded before walking in deeper and sitting down on a bed. When Percy walked in afterwards, he felt like the building didn't like her being in there but he hoped she wouldn't be there for long so it would be fine.
