Life isn't always easy

Brayden's cries echo through the house. It's 2 in the morning and I was just up to feed him an hour ago, but now Brad is up with him. I walk over to the nursery and shut the door hoping the sound doesn't wake Bri. Brad happily hands him to me and I bounce him a little until he calms down. He's a month old now and ever since we brought him home our lives changed dramatically. We thought it was hard with Bri, but now that we have 2 it's really hard.

"I think he's asleep now." Brad says as he carefully takes him and lays him in his crib "Let's go back to bed." He opens the door and to our surprise we see a half asleep Bri standing in the hall looking for us.

"He wake me." She says very upset. I put my arms out and she slowly walks over. It doesn't take long for her to calm down and I carry her to her room.

"He's asleep now, he won't wake you up again." I sit next to her bed with her.

She cuddles up next to her favorite stuffed animal and I cover her with her blanket then leave.

I follow Brad back to our room. He lays down and I do the same laying my head on his chest ready to fall asleep when we hear another scream from the baby monitor. High pitched and scary. I immediately jump out of bed with a sudden rush of energy. I'm in Brayden's room within a minute to find him crying hysterically in his crib. His face is completely covered in tears and his cries get louder as I get closer.

I reach over the crib and pick him up "It's okay, baby." I say reassuringly. He pulls on my shirt so I sit on the rocker and start to feed him. His cries stop almost instantly, and he starts to eat. I watch him slowly start to fall asleep as he eats. I hold his hand as he grips my finger loving the connection that we have. He pulls away when he's done and I make sure he's okay then put him in his crib and slowly walk out.

"He's asleep." I tell Brad when I get back in our room.

He pulls down the covers a little revealing Bri "She isn't." He says slightly annoyed. We're both exhausted and the last thing we need is for her to not sleep. I get into bed next to them and Bri moves right over to me basically climbing on me "Mommy I sleep here?" She asks sweetly.

I move her to the side a little and lay my hand over her so she's still close to me "Of course, sweetie, as long as you sleep." She gets as close as she can and falls asleep right away.

Brad moves closer to her and lays his arm across us then leans over and kisses me "I'll get up with him next."

I mouth 'thank you' and before I know it, we're both asleep as well.

I wake up a few ours later to something, or someone rubbing against my leg. Brad is already up with Brayden, so I know it's Bri.

"Bri?" I say quietly knowing that she's hiding from me. She doesn't answer so I lift the covers up a little "Briella?" I say again and I hear her laughing. I quickly reach under the covers to where she is and grab her "I got you!" She just laughs again, this time a lot more.

"I hide!" She says very proud of herself. I smile and pull her closer to me so we're laying next to each other "You did a good job, baby." We stay there admiring each other for a little and I almost fall back asleep when Brad walks in.

"He's hungry again." He says handing Brayden to me.

I take him and sit up so I can feed him "I don't understand how he's always so hungry." I watch as he eats and doesn't even slow down "It's like I'm feeding a teenage boy."

"Brady eat a lot." Bri cuts in cutely. She can't say 'Brayden' and it comes out as 'Brady' so that's his nickname.

Brad picks her up and sets her on his lap "He does. Soon he's going to be as big as you."

She looks at him in shock and we laugh. Some of the stuff she does is so cute. I lay Brayden down between us when he's done eating and we watch him squirm around. Not much, but he's starting to do some little things. Brad puts Bri down next to him and she starts doing stuff to make him laugh. We watch them proudly knowing that they're worth it. Everything they do makes us happy.
