Sometimes, at some point in your life, you just wish the ground would split open and swallow you whole...save you from having to face someone after embarrassing the life out of yourself in front of them.
That's exactly what Bubbles was wishing for – praying for, as she stood erect for a couple of minutes in the bathroom. When her prayers were left unanswered, she started pacing around the small space, almost digging a hole to bury herself in.
When that didn't happen as well, she felt her body burning up. A silent huff was emitted, eyes glowering hard at the door.
"You sure are taking your time in there, B."
Bubbles jumped backward as if something burned her. She bit back a yelp. "Darn it, Cole!"
He laughed. "I'm sorry but you were taking a long time in there and I was actually starting to get worried." Despite the teasing, the concern was evident in his tone. "I mean, it was silent ever since you ran off and I thought maybe something happened. Are you alright?"
She rubbed down her face that threatened to burst into flames and cursed at her stupidity. How could she forget to turn on the tap or anything to make her request believable?
Quickly splashing some water with her unbandaged fingers to cool off a bit, Bubbles flung the door open to come face to face with a crooked grin. Cole was leaning against the kitchen's island, arms crossed across his chest. "Never come near the bathroom when someone is in there, you son of a biscuit."
He nodded, cheeks tinged a slight pink like a kid getting scolded. "It was just eerily silent and I genuinely thought you fainted or something."
She rolled her eyes, making her way back to the living room. "Pfft, why would I faint?"
"I don't know, plenty of reasons...If not from the smell, then from the embarrassment." She froze, her bum centimeters away from the couch, eyes wide and mouth agape. Mortified, Bubbles groaned loudly, flopped down and buried her face deep in the cushions, muttering unintelligibly. His chuckles spilled out. "Oh, God," he wheezed, "What was that?"
"You're freaking incorrigible, I swear." She bit out, shooting him a withering glare. "Real mature, ugh!"
He only laughed harder. "I'm sorry, okay?" Definitely didn't sound the least bit sorry. "I couldn't not do that." You make me want to tease you so bad, was left unsaid.
She heard his feet shuffling around until he was crouching next to her blazing figure. His fingers gingerly moved some strands away until their eyes met. His twinkling with mischief and hers burning with humiliation.
"Jokes aside, don't be ashamed. It's just a natural thing. Happens to all of us. Though I'm highly flattered I made you so nervous you farted." And he burst out laughing yet again.
"Ugh!" Bubbles kicked him away, pushing herself into a sitting position. "You were off to a good start but you just can't help it, can you?" He shook his head through tremors of silent chuckles.
"I mean," he panted out, "it's not every day that a girl confesses her love to me in a rather original way then farts in my living room."
She grumbled under her breath about guys, their immaturity and her bad luck, then crossed her arms, unimpressed as he lay sprawled on the floor, chest heaving.
It was silent for a while. Him still on the carpet and her making holes in his body with how hard she was glaring. He sighed. "I'm very glad I met you, Bubbles."
Her lungs paused. "Where did that come from?" She stuttered out, caught off guard.
"From deep within my intestines, sweetheart." His cheeky grin was back. She pinched the bridge of her nose, exhaling slowly. Sitting up, elbows resting on his crossed legs, he hummed for a bit before looking her way. "Since we're here, wanna watch a movie or something?"
