A cold breeze nipped at her skin as she hurried across the deserted roads, her worn sneakers slapping in an annoying rhythm against the pavement. The sound echoed around and she let out labored breaths, noticing the bus station from afar.

It was getting closer, just a little more.

"Screw college." Her mutter tumbled out, resembling a wheezing hyena. "Ain't gonna miss my only ride home for a test that I didn't even get to write anything in!"

A groan, a roll of her eyes and a slap to her forehead later, she pushed herself harder and crossed the street, dodging a battered blue car that dared stand in her path. "You're slow, grumps! Slow! I'm sorry, okay-" Her shout was met with a middle finger from the scowling driver, an old man that was in a worse condition than his vehicle, and a loud honk that made her ears bleed. Her index rose in the air, facing him, her face mirroring his expression before he slowly resumed his sluggish journey.

Rolling her eyes, she tripped over a non-existent object when reaching the other side, regaining her footing at the last minute. A moment later a gust of wind pushed her back, so cold her body was frozen to the bone. "Not today. Not today!" A huff slipped out, carrying loads of annoyance as everything seemed to be going against her today.

She was sure she looked like a crazy person, scurrying clumsily across the asphalt. Her gaze roamed around the despondency that was spilled across the skies, clouds racing to cover as much as they can.

Finally reaching her destination, a frown marred her features as the station was filled to the brim with too many people for her liking. A faint whimper was released, her head moving from side to side in search of a free spot to stand in before the rain caught up to this area. Her attempts were to no avail. She stomped her feet, catching the attention of the few people that were curious enough to look her way, then dragged them to stand next to a lone pole. Her arms crossed across her chest, bunching up her thin hoodie as a dramatic sigh joined the blowing air.

It wasn't long before a lonely drop of water landed timidly on her cheek, sliding down so tauntingly. Dark brown eyes glanced up at the dark sky, so beautiful in its under-appreciated darkness, so gray and so happy.

Why it was associated with depression, she had no idea.

She let out a breathy laugh, so soft it got overshadowed by the sound of coughs coming from an old man to her side. He was hunched over, putting all of his weight on a quad cane with one hand and looking for a handkerchief with the other.

The scene brought a tender smile to her face as she rushed to aid him with his quest then stepped aside and ushered him to stand in her previous spot. That was the least and the most she could do, hoping the pole will shelter him from the pelting rain.

The falling droplets became harsher in their assault, resembling countless attacks of tiny pebbles as they drenched her whole. Yet, the bus was nowhere to be seen. Her lips turned downward, her eyebrows furrowing, her hand covering her eyes. I'll count to ten, she threatened no one in particular, and if it isn't here I'm walking home!

Five minutes passed and nothing happened. "What the actual fridge?!" She growled out, spitting out the rain as it invaded her mouth.

Stifled chuckles barely reached her ears, halting the train of profanities inside her mind. Shaking her head from side to side, she tilted it slightly, squinting hard to see better under the heavy downpour.

Suddenly, everything seemed a bit clearer than it was seconds ago, her face celebrating the lack of water bullets attacking it. She blinked once, twice, thrice then decided she had enough and rubbed the rain out of her eyes.
