It was too much... the assassination attempts towards her life after Lex broke out of prison made Lena paranoid. She knows that if Lex can't succeed at killing his sister, he will stop at nothing just to hurt all of the people she loves starting with you.
"I had to, Kara. If I don't, then Lex would stop at nothing just to hurt y/n. And I can't let him do that. I love her too much, and all I want is for her to be safe, and if breaking her heart is the only way to do it... i-if not seeing the love of my life ever again is what it takes for her to be safe. I am willing to endure it all. I just want her alive, Kara."
Lena explained, finally breaking down after the breakup.
Kara sighed; she was shocked at the revelation. She knows how dangerous lex is, and she sympathizes with Lena. But she also knows that breaking up with you was the worst mistake that she has ever made.
"She can't know about this, Kara. I can't endanger her any longer. Please promise me that this stays between the two of us."
Lena asked Kara as she watched the super pace back and forth around her office, clearly thinking.
"No, this is a mistake."
Kara started.
"Breaking up with y/n was the biggest mistake you have ever done, not to mention the stupidest thing that you've ever done. You're smarter than this, Lena!"
Kara continued, expressing her concern about the matter.
"Didn't you just heard about what I said? Lex broke out of prison, and he will stop at nothing just to hurt the ones that I love, starting with y/n!"
Lena argued.
"I get that, but do you really think that breaking up with her and leaving her on her own is your safest bet? Think, Lena! Even if you broke up with her, Lex would still go after her; everyone knows how important y/n is in your life. You guys are soulmates, for crying out loud! One cannot live without the other."
Kara argued back with her hands waving all around the place, expressing her frustration about Lena's decision to break your heart.
Lena knew Kara was right. For a genius, she really did make the stupid mistake of letting you go.
"W-what have I done?"
Lena said, finally realizing the magnitude of her actions.
"How do I get her back? She won't forgive me, Kara."
Lena cried, feeling hopeless about the matter.
"You will get her back. Our friends and I will help you. For now, you just need to rest. You've been working yourself to death again; you know your little boxes have their consequences."
The super explained to her friend.
"We'll make a plan to help you get her back, Lena, I promise. We'll also make sure that y/n's safe from any danger. Now that I know the real reason, I won't let anything bad happen to her and to you."
Kara assured the young Luthor.
Lena nodded at her friend's words, finally calming down. Her mind drifted off to you; she knows how much you love her, and the thought of you crying yourself to sleep is breaking her heart as well.
"Please make sure that she's alright."
Lena quietly asked her friend.
Kara walked towards Lena, pulling her into a comforting hug.
"Will do."

Back at your apartment, the superfriends are all around you, doing their best to distract you from your heartbreak.
"Nia fell asleep in front of Andrea twice today."
Winn told everyone, earning loud laughs from everyone around the room.
"Hey, my narcolepsy is a serious condition! Besides, Andrea's speech about wanting to find the real identity of supergirl is pretty boring."
Nia explained, earning a groan from Alex. Andrea's obsession with the superfriends is quite tiring, to say the least.
"According to my research, narcolepsy affects an estimated 1 in every 2,000 people in the United States. That's 200,000 Americans and approximately 3 million worldwide."
Brainy pitched in, hoping it would make Nia feel better.
"Exactly! Thank you, Brainy!"
Nia shouted, clearly happy about Brainy siding with her. You smiled at the interaction amongst your friends. The laughter around the room seems to do its job of making you feel better.
"Having fun without me, now that's just a bummer."
Kara said, appearing from your balcony. Everyone greeted the Kryptonian with much enthusiasm.
"You've been gone for almost an hour, the food was getting cold, so I told them to start without us if you don't mind."
You said, smiling at Kara.
"You should've eaten with them y/n/n. You need lots of food right now."
Kara said as she made her way to sit next to you on the floor.
"We said that, but she wanted to wait for you."
Alex interjected, earning nods and agreement from all of your friends.
"Hey, you should thank me for waiting for you. I made sure Alex won't eat all of the potstickers."
You complained, pouting at your friends as they egg you on.
"Yeah, and she wasn't very nice about it either."
Everyone laughed at Alex's statement because it was true. You know how much Kara loves her potstickers, and she would literally fight anyone who tries to eat them all on social gatherings such as this one.
"Awe, you're too kind to me y/n/n. I'm so lucky that you are my best friend."
Everyone smiled at the Kryptonian's words. You appreciate all of her efforts in helping you throughout your darkest times, and with everything seeming exceptional in Kara's life, all you can do in return is to be a great friend to her and to your other friends as well.
"I am lucky you are mine too."
