It was the day of the Dallas Stars game and Em was ready to pick up Lilly from the hospital. I was fully dressed in my suit as always before a game, Em who was in maternity clothes with the bump gaining weight everyday. Just as we arrived to the hospital Lilly had her last treatment of the day, she told me usually the last treatment was the worst because of the way it made her tired and weak. But the look on her face whenever we picked her up looked as if that tiredness was not going to stop her today. As we were driving she was tweeting and everything else about her trip, taking pictures and videos of the ride down there telling Em and I that she's never seen the city. As we arrived at the arena I could hear her squealing like a 5 year old out of her excitement. I had never met a down to earth person like this before that geniuely was excited by the view of a building sign that said "Consol Energy Center". Soon enough Emily said "Lilly honey, Beau's going to stop to sign a few autographs and just to say hi, if anyone says or asks questions of who is in the back we're gonna say your a friend of ours okay?" We wanted to make sure Lilly was comfortable with this stop in the road. She shook her head and said "As long as I can put my window down too." Whenever I stopped she rolled down the window immediatly I could hear people wondering who was that in the back etc, and she said "Don't worry I'm a guests of Beau's!!" I couldn't help but laugh at her excitement. I signed everyone's things and then entered the parking lot. Little did she know she was meeting her heroes that she watched every game in the hospital. I helped Lilly out of the car first knowing she would need help since she was tired, she also had medical patches on her chest from being burnt. I told her to wait for Emily to get out and we would start heading inside. As we entered the locker room Em and I held hands with Lilly leading the way in front. I lead her into the locker room and she immediantly started to cry. All the guys we're ready to meet her already in half of their gear. She hugged every single one of them and we had her sit down to take a break from the standing and walking. As she sat she told stories of crazy nurses and just odd things that's happened at the hospital. She told us she never got to see her friends and sometimes they would never make an effort to visit, except for one friend. I guess that made me think of how many people would visit me in a time of that hell of not going out or playing hockey. Maybe that's why I included this part in the story of myself. It shaped me to think in a differnet way of thinking. It was different, a new situation. She sat next to Emily the whole time yelling and cheering us on to a 4-2 win. I told her maybe she was our good luck charm and that I would stay in touch with her handing her my cell phone number. This was another stepping stone in the right way to make this decision. I was to marry Emily. I would want her to be the one who would visit me everyday. I was in deep, deep love.
