'Ethan, attention back to me!'
'Oh, sorry.' Ethan returned his attention to Charlie, who was smiling knowingly.
'What's on your mind?'
'Oh, nothing interesting.' Ethan replied, although he couldn't quite help his gaze drifting back to Fenisha, who was arguing with Jan. She was insisting that Fenisha should start her maternity leave, since she was only a couple of weeks from her due date, and a hospital wasn't the safest place to be, with covid. Ethan couldn't help but smile at Fenisha ran her hand through her short hair.
'Nothing interesting? We both know that's not true. You can't stop staring at her.'
'I don't know what you mean, you heard her this morning, we're just friends.'
'Oh, come on Ethan, I'm not stupid. I know the signs of being young and in love.'
'In love, you've got to be kidding.' Charlie gave him a meaningful glance. 'She can't know.'
'Why not?'
'It's not fair on her, if she doesn't feel the same way. I don't want to risk our friendship.'
'If. You admit she may have feelings for you. That's not it. You know she does.'
'She deserves better than me. And, besides, it'll go wrong, like it always does with me.'
'You don't know it'll go wrong, and, besides, what if it goes right? Sometimes it's worth a risk. You should tell her. Look, I wasted far too many years I could have spent with Duffy, and then before I knew it, she was gone. I've seen the way she looks at you, she doesn't think she deserves better.'
'You know what, maybe I will tell her.'
-
'So, Fenisha, are you ready to come back to my house for movie night?'
'Yep, all good, can we just stop at my place first, so I can grab the ice cream and pizza.'
'Sure. I have to say, this is feeling like it might become a tradition.'
'I hope so. You know, going on maternity leave is just making it feel even more real. I mean, obviously, I knew I was going to have the baby, but it's a reminder that I'm going to be a parent.'
'Well, remember that you won't be on your own, we'll do it together, you can rely on me.'
'I know. Look, about this morning, I didn't mean it. We're more than just friends.'
'I know. I think we've both known for a while.' He lent in to kiss her on the cheek, but at the same time, she turned her head towards him. He ended up kissing her right on the lips.
'Oh, Fenisha, I'm so sorry. That wasn't the intention.'
Don't apologise, it was... nice. Maybe we should do in again sometime.' She brought her lips up to meet his, and he kissed her right back.
'You know what that was?' Ethan smiled. 'Non platonic kissing.'
'Are you trying to say romantic?'
'Yes, if that's okay with you.'
'More than okay.' She tugged him behind a wall, before anyone saw, and they kissed again.
'I think I might be in love with you Fenisha.'
'I know. I think I might love you too.'
A/N So, that's it, all done. I know it wasn't much good, so please tell what I could do to improve. It became rather a drag once they were much closer in the programme than in this. Thank you for reading, if indeed you still are. I will be starting a new one changing the events around the crash, possibly saving her life and playing out what should have been. It will be better than this, I promise.
