Chapter 10: "Own duels"

John

Brute strength is obsolete without one's use of a brain. Unleashing power with a goal only to hit is dumb and a waste. A fight is a flow of moves and counter moves. One step behind is a loss, while being on par is a draw.

Always be one step ahead. I thought as I swiftly dodged Alpha Dawson's power-filled jab. He releases so much power that I can feel a gust of wind echoing his every strike. Alphas are famous for their authority and immense strength afterall.

I jumped to evade his low kick, then did a couple of backflips, creating distance, as he did an agile yet fearsome roundhouse, then the wind echoed.

Evasion would never get me anywhere, unless my foe's endurance is less than mine. Unfortunately this isn't the case.

Striking back is a must, and what better time than now?

First, I require a chance.

I'm an opportunist, can't help it.

He shortened our distance and resumed our routine.

A jab was delivered yet once again, by Alpha Dawson. Ironically, such a powerful move is equally weak when  weaknesses are exploited.

Whenever Alpha Dawson jabs, he puts every unit of force upon his fist. Right fist. Extending his arm to its fullest and keeping it concrete-like stiff form.

Never use a card twice, for the anticipation and surprise is lost. And weaknesses begin to surface.

I grab a hold of my foe's hardness. A quiet chuckle erupted from my throat caused by dirty thoughts. Alpha is quite a hunk despite his age.

I lifted my body and did a twist, brushing his head with my shin. As expected to a high ranking wolf.

Letting go of his arm, I landed my springs on the ground and jumped back. Creating distance once again before anyone could blink their eyes.

The silence of the crowd flatters our intense spar. But alas this is just a spar. It might seem breathtaking for the spectators perception, but it is quite obvious that both of us, Aloha Dawson and I, are getting bored from lack of... Oh I don't know.. Passion, hatred, malice, intention, reason?

It depended on what we sought.

I had no hatred upon him, nor did he.

I had no intention to fight him, nor did he

We only had was reason, a very shallow reason. Thus a heartless duel.

This will end after ages unless one of us concedes. I wouldn't, it's a test I shouldn't fail. But he actually might, considering this fight is only to test our strengths. A timeless duel slowly ticking away. It's a surprise the audience are still on the edge of their seats, filled with so much anticipation.

I really thought this was to be exhilerating.

High expectations fall to the lowest of disappointments.

I am just waiting for this to end with apathy.

Watching the recruits' duels, I paid attention. Not on the fight though. No, only two caught my interest. One, my dad's duel which was intense but seemed lacking of something. And two, my upcoming duel with Robert, whom I met at Andrea's cafe. It was strange that he lacked every sign a wolf has when I met him. I was- actually, we were. Even the wolves at our school were convinced he was a mere human. Also with his shady friend my dad battled earlier and was announced, Fang after my dad halted the duel.
