Chapter 7: "Open Doors"

Robert

A dog in a pound.

A bird trapped in a cage.

And a deer caught by a wolf.

These are what I felt when we were cornered.

I'm again exposed... and for the last time.

Death is inevitable.. or is it?

Just like any creature, my survival instinct kicked in. I wanna live. I HAVEN'T even lived yet, so I WANT to live.

My eyes roamed, trying to look for a loophole, an escape, a hope. Something that I can use to get out of this dire situation. Calming down, I scanned the area.

There were twelve wolves encircling us three.

The blonde wolf, now a nude woman, holds a dagger and is preparing to fight. She is not the one who's going to go down easily.

There are twigs everywhere, props I can use as decoy.

And my eyes aimed for the pack-wolf who has the smallest build. Don't get me wrong, they are Warwolves, so obviously they have the largest builds in their pack, but ofcourse, they differ at the slightest detail.

I am determined to do it.

I took a deep breath and held it in, as I found the nearest twig I quickly picked it up, then my left hand reached for the dagger the woman was holding, but what my hand grabbed was nothing but air, so I immediately looked at the woman, trying to decipher where the dagger had been, even she was shocked also, as if the dagger vanished into thin air.

"This?" John asked, holding the dagger. I gave him an irritated and confused look. How?! He blew my chance- our chance of escape!

The warwolves went on alert because of my actions. One was about to launch an attack when John spoke.

"We are rogues, but we cause no harm." he started, but the warwolves doesn't seem convinced.

John sighed. "They wouldn't listen to reason.. ever." he mumbled.

"Alright." he continued. "Let's cut to the chase. We have information that, I know, your alpha would love to hear."

"How can we be sure your information is legit?" asked by another warwolf.

"Your alpha will know." John replied with full of confidence.

"You're just trying to save your ass." The warwolf spat.

"I say we kill them." Another warwolf spoke.

I don't know what John is thinking nor trying to do, but whatever it is, it's definitely not working.

"If I tried to just save my ass, then I would have just let him-" He  pointed at me. "to throw a twig as a decoy then kill him-" He pointed at the one I targetted. "with her dagger." He showed them the dagger. "That way we would have a chance to escape." He explained with impatience.

I gave him an amazed look, as to how he knew, but he responded with a roll of his eyes and muttered: "Predictable."

"This is nonsense!" The warwolf shouted then all of them shifted to each of their massive wolves.

Their presence struck fear within me, I don't know how but.. time seemed to slow down, a second felt like a minute. I tried to shift to defend myself but fear stunned me, as if the air felt heavy, keeping me inplace. I can only do nothing but watch as the warwolves attack and take shallow breaths. Everytime their paws stomp the ground, it felt like a magnitude and a growl felt like a roar. The change in pace of time has exaggerated everything. I braced myself from their lethal fangs and claws.
