Chapter 11: "Knockout"

Robert

Bending over to my left, I dodged my foe's swift kick. I hear the cheers of the audience, not for me but for Jay. Fame is one of the many installments that came from being born to an alpha bloofline. I'm not saying the cheers are annoying, but they sure can be distracting. Not that I'm already distracted by the sight of my mate's perfectly molded muscles that lusters under the moonshine and covered with sparkling sweat which smells delightfully amazing.

I immediately guarded his swing with both of my radii.

Focus Robert! You're wandering off again.

I threw punches at him without accuracy and precision.

Damn his scent.

Those chocolate and roasted coffee beans aroma is making me light-headed. A jab made its way to my abdomen, luckily I endured the pain by quickly contracting it through reflex, but the spark that ignited from the contact is much overwhelming than the impact of the jab. It disseminate throughout my body leaving me stunned. I could have guessed he would release several more attacks if he wasn't stunned as well.

I stubbornly refused to look at his eyes and made the first move to counter. Looking directly at the eyes is a dead give-away. It is how mates confirm they are true mates.

I dropped to the ground and swung my limb, sweeping him off his feet.

That ought to bring him back to our fight.

I need him to focus on the fight to distract him from the signs.

He shook his head, returning to our fight.

Maybe, just maybe I can avoid him finding out.

It's both for our sake. As much as I knew, I repeatedly kept telling myself this.

.

Jay

Several electric impulse charge throughout my body each time my skin connects with his, leaving me stunned every time. Even though I knew a spark would ignite whenever my fist connects with his body or vice versa, I can't help not to get stunned.

One.. two.. three

I get stunned for three seconds, minimum.

"How do I know when someone is my mate?" I reminisce asking my mom when I was thirteen. The age where curiosity for love and partnership ignites.

"Well honey-" She sat on the floor, crossing her legs and I followed suit.
"First-" She held a finger up.
"A delicious smell will come barging in through your nose that will make your mouth water." She acted as if she's smelling the aroma of the food being cooked. I nodded.
"Second-" She held a couple fingers up.
"Sparks!" She clapped loudly.
"Sparks?" I asked, tilting my head to the side.
"Yes honey, sparks. When you touch your mate or your mate touches you, you'll feel tingly. Like you're grounded. And it will shoot up throughout your body." She scooted closer. "As if you were being tickled!" She attacked my ribs with her slender fingers as I giggle, gasp and swat her hands away.
"Stop!" I managed to shout while laughing through the tickles. Mom stopped and continued as I calmed.
"Third-" She held three fingers up.
"When you hear their voice..." She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. "When you hear their voice, you will feel like listening to your favorite song. You would want to hear it over and over again, especially when your mate will say the three magic little words that makes your heart swell." She paused as I watch her intently.
"And lastly-" Her eyes opened, leaving from her daydream, and focused her sight on me. "The eyes. When you look into each others eyes, you will feel the pull. And the most beautiful treasures you will ever see is your mate's shinning orbs."

I focused back on our fight, dodging, defending and attacking.

Maybe my mate wasn't a rogue.

I'm pretty sure he's a he.

Maybe he's in our pack all along, avoiding me. But why?

Maybe he's the one I'm fighting right now.

I can feel the sparks from his touch. I thought they felt like it because of the force of impact.

His groans from my hits are somewhat making my member react, but I need to hear his voice to be sure. I thought I was feeling victorious when my hits land.

But his scent though, it smells in the slightest. If you focus enough on his scent, you'll feel like it's covered.

His eyes, always hidden from my sight, as if he was doing it on purpose.

Is he?

How do I make him speak?

Well, there's one thing and I don't consider it as one of my best plans. But curiosity won.

I faked a jab and he quickly fell for it.

As he bent to his side I grabbed his arm and twisted him down, facing the ground. I twisted his arm a little bit more to make him let out even a small scream. This full contact is making me tremble slightly as the charges increased. He was biting his lip to hold his agony.

I am so sorry for this, but I have to know.

I twisted his arm further and felt his shoulder dislocate. This time, he gave in and let out a scream of pain.

This will sound sadistic, but hearing his voice made my hair stood up, leaving me shuddering. I wanted to hear more, I wanted him to talk to me, I wanted listen to him.

But what I really wanted was confirmation.

I rolled him on his back, held his arms up and straddled his waist, using my weight to pin him on the ground.

"Look at me." I dared. He refused and sht his eyes tightly. "Please.." I pleaded with gentle tone. We were in that position for goddess knows how much minutes. I heard the cheers of the spectators as they cheered to finish the fight. But I focused on the blonde beneath me as I waited patiently but in agony until he gave in.

Adrenaline coursed my body as his eyelids loosened and slowly revealing the bounty underneath.

MATE! my wolf howled within me as I stared at the most beautiful emerald gems my eyes laid upon.

"Sorry." He whispered and it took a couple of seconds before my brain processed what he just said.

I didn't noticed my grip on his wrists loosened while his fist collided with my cheek and I saw nothing but black after.

As soon as Jay fainted, my wolf felt guilty and I shouted for help. His father came after, laughing.

"He's alright. Don't worry. He's an heir for nothing." He said.

What a crazy father.

After he announced I belonged in Fang, I ran. I ran out of the Pound and into the woods.

I feel like I have done nothing, but to run everyrime.

Soon I found myself at the waterfall lake where we dove in earlier. I don't know why, but the elegance of this place made my stress fade.

I sat at the shore in the darkness of the night, listening to the rhythm of falling water in harmony with the owls' songs. With my wolf's vision I relaxed at the sight before me.

"What will happen next?" I asked the brightly shinning moon at its waxing gibbous phase.

I let out a big sigh.
