Ed's POV

When we arrived at the hospital a few doctors came to get Owen from the ambulance. On the way to the hospital Owen threw up a few times and then fell unconcious. Taylor and I had to go in the waiting room. I felt completely in the dark, the doctors were rushing around us but hadn't shared much information. Soon a doctor holding a clip board aproached us.

"Ms. Swift, you may see your son now. He is in a stable condition now." Said the doctor. Taylor stood up shaking.

"May I come?" I asked.

"Are you a family member?"

"No."

"Then I'm sorry sir, but you'll have to wait here."

"Taylor, please tell her I can see him." I pleaded.

"Ed, I don't know if Owen will feel comfortable with you in there. I need you to wait for Selena and Kayla to get here. Text me when they arrive. I will give you all an update when I get back."

With that, she walked away following the doctor through the glass doors. I slouched down in my chair. People came in and out of the ER with various injuries. I watched the world go by and waited for Taylor to come back with some news. Anything would be better than sitting with no information.

"Ed!"

I turned to see Selena running into the waiting room with Kayla on her hip. Her purse was hanging half off her shoulder and she was about to drop her keys and sunglasses. I rushed over to help her.

"How is he? Is he alright? How is Taylor doing, where is she. Is she with him?" Selena bombarded me with questions. I was only able to answer a few of them.

"I don't know how Owen is doing. He vomitted in the ambulance and then became unconcious. The doctors haven't shared any information with me since I'm not family. Taylor went back about 20 minutes ago. I haven't seen her since. I was supposed to text her when you guys arrived."

"I can't imagine how Taylor must be feeling."

"She seemed pretty shaken up."

"What is going on?" Questioned Kayla, looking around.

"Your brother got stung by a bee at the beach. Aparently he is allergic. The doctors will help him get better though."

We all sat down in the waiting room trying to remain calm.

Taylor's POV

I followed the doctor back to Owen's room. I gasped when I saw him lying in the bed. He looked so small and helpless. Wrapped around him was a truck blanket. I walked to his side and squeezed his hand. Owen looked up at me. The doctor began describing what had happened.

"Owen has severe allergy to bees. We had to connevt him to an IV to replace the fluids lost and we are monitoring his heart rate. If he is to get stung in the future, he is most likely to exhibit similar symptoms of anaphylaxis. We will give you an Epi-Pen for him. You have to stab it into his thigh and the medicine should be effective immediately."
"I'm not even a trained professional."

"You don't need to be. It can save his life."

"Thanks for helping him."

"You are very welcome. I'll leave you two alone for a little while. He can go home in a few hours. Just make sure you limit the amount of strenuous physical activity for a while until his fluid levels are normal."

The doctor left and closed the door. I sat on the edge of Owen's bed.

"Hey buddy. How are you doing? You gave all of us quite a scare. Your big sister, Ed and Selena are all waiting for you."

It was hard for Owen to try and sign with an IV in his hand. I kept making conversation. We talked about trains and cars, things we still have to do while in New York and back home.

"I had better tell the others that you're doing okay now. They have been so worried about you. I will be right back." I had a nurse wait with Owen while I went to talk to everyone else. I saw them stand up when I entered the waiting room.

"Selena, thank you so much for getting Kayla here."

"It's not a problem at all. How is Owen doing?"

"He's doing fine. Right now he is resting with a heart monitor and IV. He can't sign with the IV in his tiny hand. The doctor gave me an Epi-pen so I can be prepared if he does get another bee sting."

"Can we go back and see him now?" Asked Ed.

"I don't think so. He can go back to the apartment in a few hours. I don't want to keep you guys waiting here. You can go back whenever you want."

"It's fine. I don't mind waiting for the little man."

"Ed, I am so sorry you had to spend you're day like this."

"Don't apologize. This is by no means your fault."

"I can give you the keys to my apartment so you guys can take Kayla back and get dinner ready. We will meet up with you."

"Okay." Agreed Selena. I gave her the apartment keys. After they left I went back to Owen's room and sat with him until he was able to be released. I filled out several papers before we left. After spending three and a half hours in a New York hospital, we began our trip home. Owen fell asleep in the car. I turned on some quiet music for the rest of the drive. We were greeted with balloons and a new stuffed animal when we got home.

"Owen, I missed you." Said Kayla as she went in for a hug. They were so cute. Kayla was still in her beach clothes. Her hair was wild and curly.

"Kayla how about you go get ready for a bath. I'll get Owen in bed and then you can come say goodnight."

"Awww okay." She went off to get ready.

"Okay Owen, you have had quite the exciting day. I think it's about time you go to bed." I said while putting on his pajamas.

"Knock, knock." Said Ed from the otherside of the door.

"It's open." I replied.

He walked in holding the new teddy bear he had bought Owen. I finished tucking him in bed and passed him the bear. He snuggled up next to it. Kayla walked in a few minutes later to say goodnight. I turned off the lights.

"Sweet dreams Owen." I whispered as I closed the door.

Kayla stayed up an hour later with ne Selena, and Ed. I can never anticipate what will come next. All I need to do is embrace the present.
